I'm torn between positive and negative for this one but for once I want to believe. Here's why:
- Game is barley finished, all systems need to be expanded in my opinion but they are sold and decent systems.
- Construction is good but it could be better (Valheim), in part due to lack of available blocks. Being able to overlap different blocks is a good idea though. Makes it so you can mix shapes.
- Crafting and farming is very grindy. It takes an eternity. You either love this kind of thing (more stuff to do) or you hate it (you feel like it's a chore). You can fail a craft, the fail % is way to high and it's punishing as you loose to many materials this way. Still, it's good to have many things to make/unlock in the game.
- Game lacks a clear progression north star. It could be quests, it could be goals/trials (Conan Exiles) or just one main mission of collet that one shiny fragment in each zone to achieve that one big goal (Valheim). Right now you're just left in the world wondering why you're even trying to level up and progress at all.
- Lack of verity in starter regions coupled with very slow progression makes you think there's only 3-5 different mobs in the game. Maybe there are more but I can't tell even after 20h of gameplay.
- The idea of having a player run world is great, to bad no one ever talks or does stuff together. After 20h on a RP server, barely anyone ever talked on the chat. Maybe if there was a global chat it would be different. Game clearly lacks social incentives for players to play together. I would probably feel differently if I played this with 5 friends of mine.
- I'm not convinced about the whole plot, grace and paid subscription system. I don't mind spending money on subs or even buying stuff in the shop, I'm a working adult I can manage but here it just feels bland. It just feels like it's made to funnel people into buying premium instead of using grace to keep their plot. This would be fine in a free to play game but not in a full priced game. Grace just feels flat, you can use it for a plot upkeep or to boost crafting/gathering. Gold is basically just used to get grace form the god of greed. I just feel like it's an underused resource. Probably because it's tied to plots which is tied to premium subs. The premium subs as a whole just look forced. There should be more cosmetic incentives and the grace cost of base upkeep should be a fraction of what it is today. Having to play for days to be able to afford to keep you base if you decide to stop playing for a month or two or just having to pay them a sub is just wrong. It should at most take you an hour to farm the resources for the upkeep. Many other gamers like Dune do this. And again it's not a money issue, personally I don't mind but I see how this can rub people the wrong way. Being able to keep a base with minimal investment is a good way of keeping players longer but having an option to just pay for it not to be deleted is also fine (and I'll probably opt for that personally).
- Visually the game is great. This is what I expect from modern games. The scenery is very nice as well. Some animations could use some work though as objects or mobs can clip or bug out.
- Combat is ok but it ends up being a big button mash as it's just way to fast paced for any real methodic souls like play. Some kind of dodging would have been nice instead of just blocking or at least more depth with parry or combos. Right now it's just toned down New World combat which isn't that bad but it's not great either. Then again it's still more advanced then most game like this. Might just be my preference.

A really good concept but harder difficulties feel like they were never playtested. As soon as you get to Hard because you've unlocked everything you can on normal, you feel like your character is constantly struggling to keep monsters away from your city. You can't loot XP, can't harvest anything all because if you move just a tiny bit away from your city a huge wave of tanky monsters just obliterates your city. And your towers? They can't kill anything.

In all honesty I was hoping that this game was more about building a tower defense on your city and maybe helping a littlie with your hero and not having to constantly kill everything with him. You just don't get to harvest anything in Hard.

I guess it gets easier when you grind more and just increase the base stats of your city and hero but it's not fun having to do Normal mode for hours.

EDIT: difficulty is a bit better now. I'll see how it goes but for now the progress is not as stagnant.

Ok I did not expect this much content. Really great game if you're into this kind of thing. Said thing being gathering resources, crafting and just completing random quests. It's not as good as the holy grail of such games called Graveyard Keeper but it's pretty good.

Fun fast paced games with friends. Ideal for that 30min run with friends.
