I have played a lot of different versions of Carcassonne, from the original board game, to the mobile version that preceded this implementation, and now to this official version. Unfortunately, this is not the best version of the game.

A lot of the decisions made to enhance and modernize the styling of the game ends up reducing the visibility of the tiles themselves and reduces the enjoyment or ease of actually playing the game. Pair that with out many settings to turn off these extra features, an interface that is hard to navigate as a result of an ample amount of menus being icon-only (a hold over from the mobile game that was no doubt the primary target for this release) reducing overall usability.

The overwhelming feeling after playing this version is one of disappointment because this could be a lot better providing nice quality of life enhancements for those who are deeply invested in the game and will play it because the original board game is so effective. But I can't help but feel there is a lot of missed opportunities, features, opportunities for enhancement that would make this version the best place to play the board game. But I just can't recommend it for anyone that already deeply loves the board game and is willing to work through a lot of the unnecessary elements in this game.
