A bold new era. Bumpy start, but the future is bright.
I’ve been playing this series since the CM 01/02 days, and FM26 is easily the biggest risk Sports Interactive has ever taken. A lot of the reviews here are hammering the new UI and the bugs at launch (which is fair), but after the recent patches and getting used to the new flow, I genuinely think this is the best football simulation they’ve ever made.

Here is why I’m giving it a thumbs up:

1. The Unity Engine is a Game Changer For years, we asked for better graphics, and they finally delivered. The match engine looks incredible. The lighting, player models, and especially the ball physics are miles ahead of FM24. The new volumetric animations (thanks to Hawk-Eye) make player movement look like actual football rather than ice-skating. Watching a match is genuinely fun now, not just a visual representation of a spreadsheet.

2. Tactical Freedom (In vs. Out of Possession) This is the headline feature for me. Being able to set distinct shapes for when you have the ball and when you don’t is huge. You can finally properly replicate modern systems (like Pep’s 3-2-4-1 in possession falling back into a 4-4-2). It adds a layer of depth that makes going back to older FMs feel restrictive.
