It's times like this I like to think about Sartre's addition to the truths about knowledge and truth itself. That it is existence that precedes essence. That the choices of what your existence and entities mean to you are your own.
When humans are stripped from their expression of this choice, they go to tremendous lengths to define their essence.
Their own freedom to choose what their life means and what kind of legacy they want to have becomes drastically meaningful.
I believe adulthood is a modern branch of this idea and I'm experiencing that right now as I begin to have an agenda of life goals; how I want to see the world and how I want it to see me. I'm finally building my essence separate from what certain people think. It's something I've been missing for a while.
