Extremely addictive and easy to sink a tonne of hours into. The only thing that stops this game being a certified 10/10 is the quests. Running from place-to-place relaying messages and fetching things for people is NOT a "quest". I've put over 35 hours in and I have barely touched the quests because they just suck. I wouldn't mind them so much if they offered good rewards but they really don't, so not only are they a complete chore to do, but there's very little incentive to do them. What makes them even worse is the insane amount of dialogue there is to read. I understand that voice acting is costly, but don't then slam players with essays of text to read for simple quest exchanges because it'll just lead to them skipping ALL the dialogue

I have enjoyed my time playing this game, but I absolutely cannot recommend it in its current state.

Bugs
This game has a lot of bugs and general annoyances, some vehicles get stuck constantly (looking at you Asphalt Paver 🤬) while others experience odd physics issues causing them to get launched into the sky. Then there's just straight up broken features, for example: I can't seem to strap down heavy machinery onto the bed of a truck, when I press the button it just says "Cannot strap down load". So if you drive along with heavy machinery in the bed that isn't strapped down, you can hit a bump which can cause the heavy machinery to LITERALLY BOUNCE off the bed.

QoL
The game lacks a lot of QoL changes and features that would make it more enjoyable to play. The game feels like it's catered more towards co-op rather than single player because single player is daunting and laborious. If you switch vehicles, your previous vehicle will unhook/unattach from whatever it was holding onto, making towing and general rescue missions a complete nightmare in single player.
Road debris is a pain in the ass to deal with because the dozer sucks at clearing road debris and you simply won't have the machinery you need in the early game to deal with it. This was especially challenging in the 2nd scenario where a specific road is completely unusable due to immense road debris which you can't clear with the machinery you've unlocked at this stage, so my only option was to spend literally 2-3 hours going back and forth with the dump truck and dozer to build a giant new road that goes around and INTO THE RIVER just to get around this issue and complete the side objective.

Progression
The progression is SO SLOW. I completed the first two campaign scenarios including all side objectives, but I was absolutely no where near high enough level to buy ANY of the better machinery. I would have to repeat these scenarios approximately 10-12 times in order to reach a high enough level to buy the better machinery. Level progression aside, some machinery is locked behind objectives which you have to complete. So after toiling away for hours on end in scenario 1 & 2, the only thing you can buy is around 3-4 of the painted version of the ♥♥♥♥ machinery you've been using anyway.

If it sucks so much, then why do you have 20 hours in it??
Because if you're willing to overlook the issues, the core gameplay loop can be fun and give you a great sense of achievement. This does have the potential to be an incredible game, but there are so many issues and lack of QoL that I can't recommend it in its current state.

For buyers that are on the fence
Wait for more updates and keep an eye on the review score, if it slowly starts to improve with new updates and patches, then it's definitely worth getting.
Also get a friend to play with you, it's not very fun doing everything by yourself.

Truly a once in a generation type of game. I could go on and on about all the things that make this one of the greatest works of art and storytelling. But it's one of those things that you just have to experience yourself to truly understand why it's so great.

The combat is incredibly fun. But the story, UX and core gameplay loop is really not great.

Story
Wtf even is the story of Destiny? There's a video on YouTube called "The complete story of Destiny" and it's 10 f****** hours long... I watch cutscenes, listen to dialogue, and all I'm thinking is "What the hell does any of this even mean?"

UX
The game has 3 menus, navigating them is frustrating. The map and minimap has no compass. Quest tracking is unhelpful at best.

Core gameplay loop
Whilst the combat is fun. The core gameplay loop gets boring and repetitive quite quickly. Some aspects are very grindy and others feel either endless or pointless. I don't feel like I'm achieving anything by completing quests other than getting loot and XP.

TL;DR
meh....

Early Access Review
Definitely one of the more polished simulator games. Lots of depth and mechanics to boot. But with only <8 hours, I've almost maxed out my skill tree and have worked on every gun.
Be that as it may, with some more content and guns. I think this game would be fantastic!

There's early access, then there's Gym Simulator 24. This game needs YEARS more development. I can see the potential for it to be a fun game. But right now it's just unity shovel ware

Had this in my library for over 10 years and thought I'd finally give it a go. It was a waste of time.
The gameplay is made-up of 3 key components

Cutscenes
There are SO many cutscenes. Many of which I feel could've been translated into actual gameplay rather than just being a sit-back and watch experience. Alongside the cutscenes, you have these irritating tutorials which pauses the game and doesn't let you continue playing until you complete each step the way they want it. It's incredibly immersion breaking

Combat
The combat leaves a lot to be desired. It revolves around performing successful combos which just boils down to pressing LMB and RMB in the right order, performing these give you bonuses like powerful attacks, health restoration, ult cooldown reduction, etc. But I just finding myself forgoing the combos and just endlessly flailing away at enemies just the get the combat out of the way because it's boring. You can punch and dodge infinite times as there's no stamina mechanic so there isn't much incentive to actually use the combos unless you want health so every fight feels exactly the same.

Walking/parkour
When you're not watching a cutscene or throwing punches. You are walking to your next destination with some restrictive parkour. It's extremely linear, hand-holdy and it doesn't feel right to even call it parkour, it's just climbing and jumping in VERY specific spots.
The best way I can explain this is by using Assassins Creed as an example. Let's say you need to infiltrate a courtyard inside a building:
  • In Assassins Creed, you have the choice to climb from any side of the building or hire a crowd to blend and just walk right in.
  • In Remember Me, you would have to climb this specific water pipe and jump to this specific ledge (Then a cutscene plays when you're inside followed by the boring combat).

Story-wise, idk, something about memories being a commodity? It's an interesting concept and this game does have unique gameplay moments where you have to remix memories. It's actually cool af but these are very rare. I really do wish they had more of this.

Ultimately, this game takes an interesting concept and kills any desire to explore it due to the boring core gameplay loop.

Early Access Review
If you're thinking about buying this game. Here are some things to consider:
  • As of right now (day 1 review), there are a lot of issues with connectivity and performance.
  • There is a lot of jank and general absence in QoL.
  • The gunplay and movement is meant to be realistic, like as if you're actually puppeting a soldier. So don't expect COD-like gunplay. But to play devils advocate, there is also a lot that can be done (QoL wise) to improve this.
  • UI navigation and lobby interaction is very hit-and-miss.

It took me a while to get into a game and get going, but once I did, I was offered a FPS experience unlike anything I've ever seen. Considering this game was made by 2 people, it's absolutely astonishing what they achieved! that by itself deserves a huge round of applause.

There is so much potential here for a truly unique FPS, but as you've seen in my considerations above, it does need more time in the oven. I'm hopeful that a lot of these issues will be resolved, and when that time comes, I will 100% be adjusting my review accordingly.

So if you're on the fence about buying this, I recommend you wait for more updates and improvements.
And for those that are REALLY disgruntled by the issues, just remember, it is still a fresh early access title.
Give it some time! ;)
