While I did play and enjoy the Terraria mod made by the dev, Second Stellar is a pretty good game on it's own merits. It's got a lot of potential, though not a lot of content as of writing (12 Dec 2025). Given the low price, I think it's worth your consideration. Recommended.

TLDR : I recommend the game to anyone with even a passing interest in anime, anime-adjacent media or anime culture. In a genre filled with Genshin Impact wannabes and grimdark suffering, Blue Archive is a breath of fresh air that promises cute girls doing cute things and delivers exactly that. It's not a revolutionary gaming experience by any means. But it's good.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blue Archive is a game about youth. Everything about it screams youth. The game tells you straight to your face that the game is about youth. To hammer in this point, every playable character is a high schooler and lives the life of a highschooler. They study, make friends, and recklessly do things with wanton disregard for consequences, like a teenager does. Its story is fantastical, crazy, stupid and inspiring in the ways that only teenagers could be.

The character writing and designs are diverse and awesome. With a large cast of students, each one different in their own unique way, its almost inevitable that there'll be at least one you'll take a liking to. Assuming you're not someone who hates anime and it's culture as a whole (don't play this game in that case), the story and characters alone are more than enough reason to play it.

The music is stellar. Even if you hate everything else about the game it is difficult to hate the music. The Blue Archive OST on YouTube pulls massive numbers on its own merits and memes. If you cannot play the game for any reason, I at least urge you to check out the music - RE:Aoharu, the Total Assault boss themes, and hell even the basic story themes like Alert are marvelous ear candy.

Do note that this is a gacha game, and comes with standard gacha mechanics. For seasoned gacha veterans: the game is relatively free-to-play friendly, the monthly is nice but not necessary. 3* rate is 3%, doubled to 6% during fest. There's no pity, but you can spark at 200 pulls and you get one spark every 2 months or so. Fest is twice a year and comes with 100 free pulls. There are limited banners but they rerun every once in a while. Meta is not required to enjoy the game, the highest difficulty of content is clearable as a low spender or even as a free-to-play with a little luck and skill. The difference in pull income between a top player and average one is almost negligible.

On that note, I don't recommend it's gameplay. It's not anywhere as good as every other aspect of the game. It's servicable at best.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As tempting as it was to put a thumbs up and simply say "cute and funny uoh!" like everyone else is doing, I don't have the heart to so loosely and shallowly review a game that I've played and genuinely enjoyed for so many years now.

This game has a special place in my heart. Under no circumstances would I say that Blue Archive is one of the best games I've played: there are many other titles far more deserving of that spot. Yet, if you asked me what my favourite game was, it would without hesitation be Blue Archive. I picked it up at a truly horrible spot in my life, and it genuinely got me through tough times. I've made irreplacable memories through this game. The story damn almost had me crying. Scant few games have that honour and this is one of them.

This game is dangerous. Once you play Slay the Spire, it becomes the measuring stick for every other roguelike that you'll ever play and an overwhelming majority just pale in comparison. Slay the Spire pioneered, solved and perfected the genre.

They're making a Slay the Spire 2.

Probably the only game I've ever played where an enemy that's "immune to defenestration" is a legitimate issue

fun game. the gameplay is not as malevolently chaotic as ultrakill, the music is not as epic as doom, and if you go in expecting it to be something like that then you are going to be disappointed. but, it is a fun game, and i cant say i wouldnt recommend it, especially at the price of free.

i do not understand why i keep opening this game, are the developers geniuses or am i stupid?

Edit : After playing an additional 60 hours, almost 30 of them on the same tower, I have figured out why I keep opening this game. Truly, without a doubt, the developers are geniuses. But I am also stupid. 10/10
