It is a very good mixture of Planescape Torment and Disco Elysium, but also its own thing. There are many ways to play it, you can't technically fail it. You will need to read a lot, and love overall DnD setting. Already a GOTY candidate. Very well made cRPG experience. A must play if you enjoyed Disco Elysium. If you didnt play Disco Elysium, you should still play Esoteric Ebb.

Basically you have six stats: Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Wisdom, Intelligence and Charisma. Each are your "inner voices" with distinct personality. In dialogues, they will have passive checks that can succeed or fail. And they lead into different thoughts, lore, info and dialogue options. And it is handled very well.

If you are a fan of cRPGs, it is already a great game. If you like classic Fallout and/or stalker, metro etc. generally speaking post apocalyptic themes, you have to play this cRPG. Solid 8/10

Pros:

+Multiple viable combat builds
+Lots of skill or stat checks
+Some quests actually allow these checks to be applied in dialogue and that can lead into a solution
+Quests and characters are interesting
+Dialogue is not cringe, generally well written
+Combat is very fun and fluid
+Side quests are mostly engaging
+Raiding caravans or peaceful stalkers actually have consequences

Neutral:

>Locations are ok. Unfortunately not too great. Compared to The Hub (FO1), New Reno (FO2) or Tarant (Arcanum), locations in Atom RPG unfortunately not interesting. They are just ok
>Rest of dialogue is just ok
>Some quests are.... just ok (not a bad thing tho)
>Leveling up and character building is good but unfortunately you have to grind too many random encounters to farm experience. Quests don't give much exp. So, leveling up is in neutral

Cons:

-Some maps are unnecessarily big without allowing you to exit from any edge/corner of map. This is a big issue. Even when you camp to cook or enter a random encounter, you might have to walk a while to exit. Not all edges count as exiting map for some reason. It is not a good design choice. It won't take forever but it becomes exhausting

-Pacing is not smooth. After mid game you just do everything very fast and world map travel speed will bother you

-Map travel speed is an issue. I understand that it makes sense in first map. However it becomes incredibly boring not only in mountains, but it becomes very annoying in dead city. Especially dead city metro. For few quests, you travel at snail speed. That world map is not designed well. It was boring and frustrating. You can't use all tunnels in metro because there are rubbles blocking some tunnels. No shortcuts. Ok. So lets walk entire map in snail speed. Not good.

-Some speech checks you can encounter in early game require comically high level of skill and you might not be able to re-do them

-not all NPCs need to be talkable. Almost every NPC is talkable even if they dont provide any info. They might tell you their name, what they do etc. No. Fallout 1-2 did it with "over the head texts". It added some personality to locations. IF a player can initiate dialogue screen with an NPC it should at least serve a purpose. And yeah, to find quests you will talk to everyone which becomes exhausting after a while

-You do a lot of quests but they give little experience, and most experience comes from combat random encounters

Based VC commander who led his team to great victory attacking Saigon, a true military combat strategist! I recomend playing with him- not against him. :B1:
