Determination of the Cake Specific Resistance.The aim of this experiment was to determine the cake specific resistance of a filtration system, and compare the experimental value obtained with a theoretical value achieved purely from calculation based upon particle size. We hypothesise that both the experimental and theoretical values for the filtration system will be concordant with each other and will thus provide a working-life example of the applications of the Carman-Kozeny equation, and how it may be used in order to estimate how a system may operate before carrying out the operation at a lab, or even industrial scale. A filter press is a method of separation involving solids and liquids. Industrially, the process involves using a pump to generate positive pressure and force a slurry containing both the solid and liquid components through the filter.
