Its great! It expands on the lore and has new functions that really add the experience, like for example, being able to have a way more customizable stock character that fits to your body type/ relative skin color, that makes it that much more immersive!
but...

If there's one MAJOR gripe I have, it's that the crouching is SUPER unstable most of the time and I couldn't find myself adjusting to it well. It's like a DOWNGRADE from Boneworks... I think it's because there's no solid "STANDING" option to choose from like in Boneworks, so it basically combines STANDING and SEATED play...
Basically, if you're used to crouching IRL for the game, like maybe a lot of us here, say goodbye to that, because when you crouch IRL, it automatically stands you back up in the game...

It's SO AMAZINGLY FRUSTRATING that I didn't even bother trying to explore more because, instead of vaulting onto a platform like you normally would in Boneworks, it keeps your legs stiff as a board, unless you physically force yourself to crouch by pushing down on the joystick..BUT THEN, NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU LEAN OVER THE PLATFORM...YOU MAY NOT EVEN GET YOURSELF OVER IT FOR SOME REASON!!!!!
Like the game is trying EVERYTHING in it's power to keep you from climbing up!

Super frustrating, please just make the player choose whether they're seated or standing.

Other than that, the game is fantastic and I still highly recommend!!

I am not exaggerating when I say this game was one of the best VR game for the longest time in the early days, and I know I'm not the only one who agrees.

When I discovered the game back in 2017 at 14, I was in absolute awe with the little details, like having to physically reach out and shake a players hands to add them as a friend, the physical nature of your menu and every other button in the world, the whole recreational center theme with an after school hang out/club feeling to the official spaces/quests, with water fountains at the end of each quest to remind you to go drink some actual water too? It was awesome and made for a fun, nostalgic, laid back atmosphere. It was really personable and grounded feeling strangely enough.
And the best part, back then if you could believe it, it was mostly older players on that I would come into contact with! The range was maybe 14-25 that I'd interact with and everyone was great and not racked with incessant "ironic brain rot" back then. And by no means was this an adults game of course not, but it did have a more mature player-base that just wanted to relax and play some fun games.

Ever since the pandemic, its been a slow decline in lots of things, but mostly the rise of a
"less mature" audience joining the fray, implementation of ai (which ive been told is ALLEGEDLY was the game was shut down), and a major push to make money from the game and become the next Roblox.
The game really lost itself after it started focusing on profits, and went down the obvious route of eventually not being profitable enough and just getting shut down by some old farts who dont give a single ♥♥♥♥.

It's a sad, sad thing that the creators seems to not care about the community of nearly 23M active players to keep SOME sort of system in place to prevent the game from being needlessly "deleted" essentially, and turned into a paperweight for a game, with them supposedly removing functionality from the game.
Not even an offline mode to play quests on? Come on guys seriously??
I can't find myself to forgive them for that.

There are TONES of archives that have dated to before the shut down so thankfully we have options to keep playing

It's truly the end of a era, and although the golden days of of Rec Room are WAY behind us now, I'll always remember it for that golden era, and not the terrible recent ai slop driven era that lead to its own downfall.

I have my many grievences with whats happened, but the game is really high quality on its own.
Yes if it was still going, if you could look past everything. The microtransaction implementation in community rooms, the ai bot, the overwhelming child playerbase of the game now, and played JUST the official rooms like Paintball or any of the quests privately with some buds, I would say yes i reccomend this.
You would've had a blast no doubt.
