Coming from a long line of Monster Hunter games, I tried to ditch all bias and comparison between the two, choosing instead to give it a nice, clean slate to better understand what this game is all about.

Long story short, the game does provide splendid graphics, quite interesting ambient sounds and an immersive soundtrack (when applicable). The Karakuri mechanic is also a literal breath of fresh air, putting a twist into the whole weapon class system. It certainly feels like the Karakuri is the main weapon that's enabling the chosen weapon class to really shine! Quite enjoyable and definitely something I'd like to see more of.

However, even with the Week 1 patch, the game is barely playable. I'm running this game on an i7-9700K @3.60GHz, GeForce RTX 2080 Super and a whopping 64GB RAM and it's struggling on Standard settings, any FPS lock (even unlimited) and any VSync setting combination.
Specifically, while the map movement is smooth, I can't help but notice frequent frame drops, especially when weapons are being used. This is even more pronounced when fighting Kemonos, as when Ragetail came knocking, the overall mid-combat FPS barely reached 20 at most.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great game and it paves the way for innovations in the boss rush / hunting genre. But do yourself a favor and get it on console, because PC version is anything but playable.

P.S. the demo is effectively locked behind a subscription paywall. That's a big no-no on it's own, but I try to not let bad practices tarnish what is essentially a good game.

I honestly cannot remember when I bought this game, but even after all these years me and my buds can't resist the urge to just get each other blown to pieces while trying to "save the world"! IMHO, this is a true gem of a game!
