Being probably the only person to play Skyrim for the first time, eleven years after it was released ... I found it very underwhelming. It's probably the weirdest game I've played - all the good lore and stories were in books and the quests were ... eh most of the time.

So imagine my surprise when I started Enderal. It's not something drastically different but compared to Skyrim, it does everything much better - music, narrative, side quests. Just hearing "The Whisperwood" and "The Winter Sky" for the first time is a magical experience that ... like, ♥♥♥♥, it can't really be described how beautiful those are to hear when you walk into a tavern just to sleep off the night.

Combat is generally the same as Skyrim - if you don't like it and think it's stiff as hell - I don't blame you, thats why you can install some mods and make it a 100x times better and more fluid.

The narrative - it does sometimes get a little bit hard to follow, but I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and the two companions you have with you are deep, interesting characters if you choose to get to know them.

Side quests are, in my opinion, much more fun than Skyrim and the developers did try to have some variety - you'll be going on egg hunts, procuring a "cure" for a man's daughter, beating the piss out of drunks, encountering witches who really like to paint, exploring dangerous factions in order for a companion to get revenge, helping a tinkerer create a mechanic body for himself while exploring ancient starships in the process. Quality over quantity was the mantra here.

Overall, Enderal makes me both happy and sad - happy, because there are still good RPGs out there and sad because this is probably the last total conversion they'll ever do. It's a hell of a game to finish on though.

Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind - Amphetamine Binge
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Fever Dream
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Bad Porno with some of the worst voice acting known to man kind, right up there with Resident Evil 1. 10/10, game of the year, re-release it 17 more times

I honestly don't know who thought this was a good idea - huge, absolutely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ massive maps ... with barely any enemies or anything interactable in them.

That would be fine if at least you have interesting quests, right? Nope, barely any quests to speak of in the starting town and the one I did find was to just get some mushroom from a cave. Not terribly exciting.

The crafting system is probably the only thing that you should stick around for - tons upon tons of recipes for armor, weapons, potions and other stuff. Other than that, there isn't a damn thing to say. It's essentially a glorified walking simulator.

Doesn't do anything to hook you in, just large open maps with little to nothing in them. Initial story setup seems intriguing ... until you realize there aren't any actual quests or NPCs to get quests from, just "interest points" on the map that are just "Liberate X bunker" or "Kill ambush bots at Y".

Maybe some of the guns are worth sticking around for but by the point you unlock them, you would have already died from boredom.

Avoid, avoid, avoid.
