So if you're the slightly interested in sci-fi games, I would give the expanse a check. You can also watch the show on prime to see if you will like the lore. I watched and liked it, but dropped on the second season because I found it to be too slow, but I still had a great time. This was also way before I knew of any game thing, the show just was good by its own strengths despite me not being a movie/TV kind of guy.
Mass effect refers more to the style of game of being a sci-fi choice-driven RPG with solid combat and world building. It's the most far-reaching sci-fi game you can make. Expanse and exodus are following that trend in the sci-fi race it's why it caught so many eyeballs.
Also, people in the sci-fi space are looking forward to expanse: osiris reborn, you should look it up.
