Third party launcher has broken the game. It is very difficult to get the game to launch consistently now, especially since I bought it for my 10 year old daughter. I shouldn't have to teach her to start the EA app, log into my EA account with MFA codes sent to my email, and *then* her game will start. Completely broken launch experience, first on Origin and now on EA App. Will definitely factor against decisions to purchase EA games in the future.

This is by far one of my favorite VR games. If you want a game that gets you up and moving, this game will suck you in and spit you back out an hour later sweaty and pumped.

Locomotion is very broken. Smooth locomotion doesn't work on some relatively flat surfaces, and little things like a small rock jutting from the floor will stop you suddenly. When this happens you need to teleport to unstick yourself, but in a lot of cases you just end up clipping into wall and getting stuck. I just teleported onto a floating platform, dropped through a box it was carrying, then further so my feet were dangling out the bottom of the platform. I was completely stuck and had to exit the level.

Server lag is a serious issue too, especially during peak play times. This compounds the locomotion issues, as you may start moving one direction only to keep drifting that direction past when you want to stop. Bullets may or may not fire on command.

I want to like this game, it's very beautiful. Unfortunately it feels like a study in form over function.

Okay, I just bought Orbus VR two weeks ago. Since then I've played about 19 hours, which is a lot for me. Parts of it are very simple, but parts of it are very complex and deep.

The combat is fun. Ranger uses bows, warrior uses a sword and shield to block, and mage is crazy... you actually draw the runes in the air to cast spells. So if you want simple, warrior is just hack slash block. If you want complex, drawing runes in the air quickly and correctly is hard as nails, but very fun. I honestly haven't even taken the time to try the support class yet.

The enemies are decently well thought out. The beginning enemies simply attack, giving you a chance to learn how to play the game. As you progress, the enemies start doing more advanced attacks, requiring you to dodge and position yourself intelligently.

The game also rewards you for playing well. As a ranger, landing more accurate shots with your arrows increases the damage done, and firing from farther away increases a "supercharge" meter that eventually allows you to unleash a barrage of charged arrows. As a mage, casting multiple spells in a row without having any fizzle increases your supercharge meter, building towards your ultimate attack.

Towards the end game they have a rune system that allows you to craft buffs specific to your play style. I'm excited to reach the point where I can try it out.

Grouping with people is very simple and fun. As you walk around the world, you will hear people near you talking. In the starting village there is almost always a group of people practicing mage spells, or sharing fishing tips, etc. There are enough people playing now that you can usually find someone nearby to help you complete the harder fights.

Oh, one of my favorites. You can switch classes by just equipping the appropriate class weapon. Each class levels separately, so you can enjoy each class play style on your own terms.

The lore in the game is expanding quickly. Right now the dev team seems to be focusing on bug fixes and adding new lore. Hopefully new content isn't far behind.

Now for the bad...

There's only a single quest chain. This means a lot of walking around and performing specific tasks to progress. This isn't as bad as some other games I've played, but it is noticeable. The graphics are... sometimes inspired, sometimes terrible. The FPS seems to drop below 90 pretty frequently even with the low poly counts and no textures. I have a gut feeling the dev team might be pretty small, so new content and performance fixes might take a while.

That being said, everyone I've played with so far has been really great. There's a lot of fun sitting next to a lake fishing with a group of randoms, talking about the game or completely random stuff. I might be a sucker for RPG game elements and the feeling of constant progression. But I usually hate multiplayer, and Orbus has instead made me enjoy playing with random people. All in all, I recommend it, even with the $40 price tag.

I love guns, I love swords, I love being able to switch freely between them in a single game. Throw in glaives, a bow, machine guns, a skill tree, weapon upgrades, and at least 8 unique enemy types, and this game has a ton of cool stuff. The game is still actively being developed by the devs, and each new update is like Christmas morning. Well worth the asking price.
