(Steam Deck Update)
I recently returned to Beat Hazard from a long seperation. I used to play it quite a bit on a desktop gaming PC. But over the years my life has transitioned from dedicated machines and allotted gaming spaces, towards something a little more on the go. I am sure a few out there can relate to the reasons why. Life just gets faster and we need something more flexible.

As I moved away from desktop gaming Beat Hazard got left behind. Twin stick shooters in general just play better on controllers and Beat Hazard is no exception. For me using a laptop screen while having a controller out at the edge of the bed (or couch) while trying to multi-task with my loved ones just wasn't fun.

Enter the Steam Deck. A perfect handheld experience for games like Beat Hazard. I decided to redownload the game while chasing a badge from a steam sale. And now I can't put it down again. The Steam Deck was made for Beat Hazard because:

  • Twin stick shooters play best on controllers (it's right in the name)
  • The length of a song (3-6mins) is very easy to squeeze out while preoccupied with other tasks. Which is great for gaming on the go (ex. between trains), or while doing household things (ex. waiting for water to boil).
  • Unlike the switch; the Steam Deck will let you load it up with a bunch of music by switching to desktop mode and making some folders.
  • The Steam Deck's form isn't clunky like a laptop to play on a couch or on the bus.

A word of caution: I was playing using the good old mp3s. I have the dlc for iTunes or Spotify, but haven't set it up. I am assuming it works just fine. But no tested.

Beat hazard is the perfect combination of vibing to some tunes and gaming out at the same time. This is addicting on the Steam Deck. Highly recommend.

Fantastic game for chillin and listening to your music. Be sure to buy the iTunes codec DLC to access all your music. Basically this is a fun sort of visualizer that is a game of astroids that gets more intense the more your music picks up. Just good fun.
