Free game, but the worst kind, where every area you find requires you to pay to access, the wiki is out of date on town positions, it's a huge map and a huge mess with literally 30+ different npcs for each town that buys and sells different items (separate blacksmith and armory), the tutorial doesn't teach you anything of value, monsters are either level 1, 5 or level 40, even right outside the town, there's no in between, to be able to sell items with players you need to get to some specific town and there's no outright info or tutorial or anything on any of this, you have to find all of the info yourself either by playing the game forever or click and read through hundreds of wiki articles.
Doesn't help that the music is pretty bad, the game is FULL of the kind of mobile game cancer ads CLICK THIS BUY THIS CLICK HERE CLICK THAT, and the game itself is all completely point and click so you're gonna get bored of clicking pretty quick even without any spammy advertisements for paying to play the game.
All in all I honestly can't believe they managed to make Runescape a worse game than it was 20 years ago.
It was a cute game back then because it was basically one of the first free and multiplayer/MMO 3D PC games, you had to figure out and explore the game and all of its content (basically all free back then and no spammy advertisements at all) yourself which was fine back then, but it's not fine 20 years later when any reasonable person just wants to play for fun or nostalgia and wants to get through the most boring phases, but truth be told this game has never been more boring.
I like the level 1 cave that you start nearby, that you can get to start mining and woodcutting etc early, however that's where the fun ends, you can't easily sell anything you make, and all the other issues I mentioned earlier, I'm not gonna go through them again.
Jagex managed to make a really boring old game even more boring by making and essentially advertising their game here on steam fraudulently as a hi-def upgrade of the old game, but it's still the same ♥♥♥♥♥♥ old graphics and everything, maybe in 480p instead of in 240p, either way it's a pile of ♥♥♥♥.
Keep in mind this is coming from a developer/modder and avid player of an even older 2D MMO game, so I'm not picky when it comes to graphics at all, but I hate the fake advertisement.

Dota 2 has some great custom games.
