Eastward is probably one of the best narrative-driven ARPGs I’ve played in a very long time. It carries with it an emotional weight and whimsical charm no doubt inspired by works like Earthbound, as well as a fun snappy gameplay similarly inspired from Zelda, but takes those inspirations and combines them with its own unique ideas. Its characters are lovable and endearing, but also human and by no means invincible. When a person dies, they aren’t meant to come back, after all. It’s a story that left me wishing there was more—so many loose ends left with only meager answer, if any at all. And yet, I’m satisfied with it. Eastward understands the power of emotional investment in its world, its story, and its characters, coupled with the engagement that comes out of fun gameplay backed by an amazing soundtrack, so if any of that sounds appealing to you, I'd highly recommend you give it a go.

Early Access Review
I've never played a more addictive classic-inspired FPS that combines the classic movement & shooting of its predecessors with modern roguish elements in the form of randomly generated levels & a vast supply of weapons to discover, experiment with, and use for the satisfying reaping of nightmares. While it may not have the fancy shmancy graphics of other modern shooters that also expand on the gameplay from the classics, I'd highly recommend not letting a few pixels turn you away from a solid, charming, and ultimately fun experience.

My only complaint is that I can't find a download for the wonderful soundtrack as of writing this.

One of the first games I ever purchased on Steam and one of my favorite sandboxes basically ever, as I'm sure the amount of time I've wasted in it makes very clear. I feel I can best compare this game to a virtual toybox--a space to experiment, fiddle around with, and explore a near infinite amount of community made items. Whether it's wandering through maps, discovering that the laws of physics are actually quite flexible, learning that your friends may be closet arsonists, building highly impractical machinery, crashing the game for the umpteenth time, or creating massive collections of addons that rival the file size of AAA games, no other game has ever quite given me the sense of pure unadulterated fun that Garry's Mod has.
