I played 2 before one.... oh No! You dont need to follow the series or even need to be any good at platformers to enjoy this game. Decent storyline, nice visuals and fun gameplay. Like secrets? They're there. Like different classes? Got you covered. Physics? That too. Its a pretty good game. Definitely worth the money and your time.

Pretty fun. Rogue-Like, and pretty difficult, even on easy.
You will die, lots. Travel with a band of merry followers as you escape 12 levels of onslaught while trying to recover your shipmates, research technologies, and gather loot.
Interesting 'power' mechanic that can help you control the flow of aliens or completely ruin you.
Odd mix of 3d and pixel art.
Worth the couple bucks one way or another.

Early Access Review
Its Early Access so I'm sure theres lots of things that can happen, but I'm not ready to say its something I'd reccommend. Its been in production for three years and seems like it has a lot to go to make it interesting for more than a couple runthroughs. Random Dungeon Crawling Rogue-Like Game. Its missing something big and its a combination of the mechanics and lack of really any substance that wont let me enjoy it as much as I feel I could.

Pros: Completely random dungeon that works well. RPG Elements. Roguelike, so you never know what you're getting or if you have any chance to succeed. Money Carries over after you die.

Cons: Unrefined interface, no story, visuals are hard on eyes trying to focus between like the 16 bit characters and semi 3D environment, been in development for a long time. No real drive to play through more than a few times.

Overall, i'm not sure what can be added to make it more interesting. The Dev is looking for feedback, but the biggest thing would be to fix the cons. Not sure you you do that with the short playtimes. Why are you there, what are you doing, what is driving you, who are these people, what is the reward, what do I do with all this broken and useless stuff you accumulate, are some good questions to start answering.

Bought this game years ago around the same time Minecraft was starting out and when people started choosing sides. Played this game for a day or two and uninstalled it. Picked it up again in 2014 and good lord what was I missing out on. I'm sure its changed a bit over the years, but next thing I knew I had wasted 300 hours with most of that in a single map. Its a good game, tons of things to explore, tons of things to fight and too many things to collect.

Picked up a shooting star sword, built a castle and defended my realm from wave after wave of baddies.

If you like killing things, side scrolling, looting and exploring all while the world is slowly being corrupted, and tons of bosses and baddies then this game is for you.

Get it, its worth it.

If you dont know what this is by now, go play angry birds. Its the old game verbatim with the ability to upscale and they've even added an expansion pack like 20 years after the game came out. Kinda nuts. This game probably isnt for this latest generation but still worth a try. I only bought and am reviewing this because its a fantastic game and always was. Now I just get to buy it again.

Do you like XCOM? Do you like modern games? Do you like losing a lot? This game might actually be for you. Almost as hard as the original if played on the proper difficulty levels and updated with all the latest and greatest. Make sure to get the expansion pack right away and get right into it. Runs on a wide variety of pcs and successfully wasted a lot of my time. Great game, same typical xcom type of story. Build your armies and wipe that alien scum out of this galaxy.

Don't know what xcom is? Do you like turn based strategy? Then you probably want this game. If not, then give it a try anyhow.

Sincerely,

This game isnt great. After being released a while ago it still feels like an unfinished beta version of the game. Based on the forums, it doesnt look like the developer will ever finish the game because they've already started on thier next one. The game freezes, crashes, wierd buggyness, confusing as hell and is not polished in a lot of areas, but that all being said, its a lot of fun.
Think a much slower and less refined civ game based in space. I dont want to compare it to the other space games. I put it on easy mode, researched everything explored every nook and such and still didnt understand some of the mechanics. Then i built several massive dreadnaut class capital warships with intertial dampeners, filled one with nukes and another with the best shields and weapons money could buy and just walked through everything. That was fun. I really wish the devs would take the time to really finish this game, build in the tooltips and not make it impractical to research and such.
Ship building is awesome, its a bit much for me but if you really get into it, theres some crazy things you can do with it.
Resource management is like any other civ game. Its a bit quirky but theres some nice differences to set it apart from the rest.
The diplomacy stuff is meh, I was never good at dimplomacy but the 'tone' option you have on all responses really is a neat thing.
The slowness is a good and bad thing, sometimes a speed adjustment would be nice, but other times I couldnt hit the pause button quick enough.
Aside from any other unpolished based complaints, my big issue was with the notification system. My fleet could have gotten into a huge ambush or intercepted by the 'remnant' forces and I would have never known. It got me quite a bit of times and I'd never want it to be like civ which I think has notification overload but there needs to be more. I had a smaller map and its just too much to keep track of.

I dont know the cost of the game now, its definitely worth checking out, I only spent like 8 bucks on the sale so that was worth it, but dont expect it to be the next MoO and if you dont know what that is, then thats good, just go with it. I'll check it out six months from now and maybe I'll change my tone from 'threatening' to 'pleading' for forgiveness and like the wasteland 2 game I hope it happens, but this isnt even an early release. Good luck out there.

This is surprising really fun. Side scrolling platformers are really not my thing. I grew up with the whole genre, but really ignored it after getting older. This is a really cool game, awesome mechanics, i'd guess N+ or something was an influence? Great cartoony storyline accompanies the stealthy and entertaining gameplay. I got this on a whim and didnt think i'd end up playing it and a snowed in weekend makes me happy i did. Just my style of play, not super fast paced and tons of unlockables, upgrades and fun mini game type optional levels to break it up. Just well designed and all around good stuff. Check it out.

Early Access Review
New Review: Did you know an Early Access Game meant you could play, rate and review an unfinished game? Did you know that people violently defend something they cant possibly understand or judge something based on very little information provided? Fanboys would rather say this poo doesnt stink because of what they think the end result of the product might be. Something impossible to determine.

This last update helps a lot of these folks save face. While the game is still a buggy mess, its still probably better than half the games out there now. I've been actively involved in bug testing, aka playing, this game since november when it first came out. It has made large strides to this still unfinished game and thankfully the community and developers are pulling through.

For any of you who played the original fallouts, this is what fallout 3 should have been. Regardless of the bugs (fallouts were REALLY BUGGY even in release) you need to save often. Because either the game will crash or you will die. Its not hard to be roaming the wastelands and be mobbed by a bunch of methed out raiders with giant axes.

Pros:
The gameplay and UI is really shaping up. Still not perfect but the bits and pieces that have changed would seem that the rest will fall in line soon enough.
There is enough new content and changes that make replaying the first 3 levels over and over not seem so repetitive.
Its fallout 3. Sick twisted humor with gore, unavoidable consequences and quick decisions make this game thrive.

Cons: Its still pretty darn buggy and has its fair share of holes and such that arent gamebreakers but are easily noticed.
UI still needs some work.

Still worried about dropping 60 bones on it? I'd still hold off. Check back in a few months. This isnt a game for people that want to play a game. Not yet. You will lose your saves and everything often as it updates. Its still a heck of a lot of fun and I've burned through 40 hours in the last two weeks.

Sincerely,

Old Review:
It looks like it will be good, and i'll update this when I can actively play it for more than 15 minutes at a time. Definitely a good mix of fallout with that text based game flair. Before you say, OH well this is what fallout is based off of, well its not. Go play wasteland 1 and tell me how its like fallout again? Maybe a theme and designers, but not much more, fallout stands on its own and this is what fallout 3 should have been even though I love fallout 3 as it is.

Cant wait for it to be finished, but unless you want to 'support the devs' until the game is finished, I'd steer clear of this guy for a bit. It has a very hard time loading maps and transitioning and its mostly memory access errors. 32 bit quad core with 4 gig of ram and higher end nvidia card just isnt cutting it right now. performance is great on any level of resolution or graphic quality so not sure what going on.

Cons:
UI needs a bit of work, its not intuitive sometimes and breaks a decent amount of the time.
Loading areas crashes 80% of the time. Save often.

Pros:
Everything that isnt a con, this will be a great game, from what i can experience at quick intervals, there is a lot here to see and has that great quirky feeling from the original fallout games.

I know this is a beta, and i'm waiting on getting bug reporting credentials from them so we can shore all of this up, so if you still take the plunge maybe you'll have better luck than me. I'm really looking forward to a truely playable build and the end product.

Update: I'll be installing this game on a different pc and even a laptop soon to help me shun the non-believers.
Update 2: Still not ready to change. Other computer doesnt seem to matter, perhaps you need a much bigger and powerful rig.
Update 3: Still not playable. Shucks.
Update 4: Playable! Oh my. Played it a lot, still not ready to change my mind. Even upgraded my pc to a nice new 64 bit with more memory and fun stuff. Its still super buggy! Like, I joined the bug thing and submitted 11 bugs in 60 minutes of playtime. Not all gamekiller bugs but theres not much more to do than just test out the game engine.
