solid gunplay and an attempt at a unique format that i dont think is a bad idea, but isnt executed as well as it could have been (fixable, though). mashes a few genres together in a way that works surprisingly well.

visual design is beyond boring, none of the characters are interesting at all design wise, the environments are all cookie-cutter with a weirdly subdued and depressing pallet, both of the major NPC characters you'll hear are completely vapid and its abundantly clear neither voice actor wanted to be in the booth.

i wouldnt pay money for this, but for free, you can find a worse way to kill a few hours. tentative recommend.

decently fun gameplay, strong atmosphere, and a fairly compelling story with generally well realised characters

nothing here is exceptional, but if you're a fan of the WoD IP then there's plenty to like here

no reason this needed to be a video game. it doesn't even attempt to have the illusion of choice and the QTEs feel like an obligatory inclusion. at its most generous, this should be viewed as an animated series

as an animated series, it sucks. constant attempts at humour that really don't land- the tone is in the weird middle ground where it doesnt take itself seriously but still expects the viewer to buy into the tension. the central plot is a romance between the flat protaganist and a flat love interest who have no chemistry and immediately fall for each other regardless of the player's choices.

i turned it off an hour in- maybe it gets better, i doubt it.

well made and performed animated movie mixed with a fun cinematic adventure/shooter game. if youre okay spending a lot of time putting the controller down

gameplay wise it's exceptional within its class. the gameplay doesnt have the depth of a 'real' shooter, but it's viscerally satisfying with a lot of work put into making the action feel brutal and dynamic. you need to meet the game halfway on some of the mechanical sleight-of-hand, but you'll have fun

the story is overall pretty strong. well realised characters and clearly conveyed themes that ask a few moral questions with murky answers. it asks the player to challenge some preconcieved notions and assumptions they've made in a way that's atypical of a video game. the new protaganist, abby, stands out as likable with a compelling development that both mirrors and contrasts joel's in the first game.

suggest playing this one on controller. mouse aim trivialises the shooting in a way that isn't good for the pacing and tone of the gameplay.

the game also has some unfortunate and not-so-subtle allusions to a real life conflict. it's best to try ignore this, because it's incredibly hamfisted and generally unpleasant with regards to what it has to say about it. it was nonsense when the game came out and has only aged poorly since then.

An incredibly satisfying and fun experience that captures the feel of the movie perfectly. A decent amount of content (12 ~25 minute maps) for the price, decent variety in builds and classes, with a good mix of gameplay scenarios and challenges, with quite a few unexpected surprises that'll please series fans.

The low budget shows in a few places, but the developers clearly used the resources they had to put polish and content where it'd be most worth it.

Would recommend having at least one friend to play with- the matchmaking currently has a lot of issues that make it tricky, and the AI teammates aren't quite worth a player (playing with 2/3 is more than doable, but 1/3 isn't ideal). Intense difficulty is a better choice than regular if you're familiar with shooters.
