If every hero is OP, are they really OP anymore? Why do items have to be passive? Why can't they add extra gameplay value and fun?

They are pretty nice platformers, kind of relaxing and casual-ish. I've heard Trine 2 has a steep learning curve, I've only played a bit of Trine 1 though.
