this game is dog water as both a roguelike and a souls-like and the devs need to be humbled

Really fun game that I just cannot in good faith recommend due to the performance issues plaguing the game, and to prevent people saying "upgrade your pc" I am one of the few people who can play this game at passable fidelity + frame rate. running the game with everything at maxed settings except ray tracing at low and DLAA w/ frame gen has my game running and looking good, but it really shouldn't require someone to invest the amount of money i did into their own rig just to get a passable experience. Just because I'm having a fine experience doesn't mean the game isn't littered with a ton of performance problems for a lot of other people. Hope it gets fixed quickly

Beat the game on PS5, but I love this game with every fiber of my being I had to double dip and get the PC release too to play. Miles better than Remake IMO and I would put it on par with OG FF7.

The story in Rebirth is the rest of disc 1 from OG, and I personally found that to be my favorite of the original. It's a stretch of the story that allows characters to develop and Rebirth gives *most* of them more depth. The banter with the cast is to die for and having Rebirth just be a bit world trotting adventure which primarily focuses on character development makes it a joy to play, and almost feels like a calm before the storm with Part 3.

The combat is such a drastic improvement over Remake's combat. It maintains a similar flow, but the addition of synergy skills, default elemental spells to always be able to deal with weaknesses, and better aerial combat make this so engaging. I can't think of much I'd want them to add in Part 3's combat aside from maybe mid-fight party swapping with the "backline", but other than that this feels like the definite ATB/Action combat hybrid Square has made and it's so good I feel it should just be a genre for Square to use for their other titles.

I don't really have a lot to say about the open world because it's just kind of unreal. The 4 year turnaround time from Remake to Rebirth and having a map this big with minimal loading and tons of life is insane to me. Every big name town was given a faithful re-imagining so the identity is still kept in tact. Some places feel kind of weird to me like Cosmo Canyon being almost a tourist trap-esque location which I never really got the impression of while playing OG, but other than that I really love the entire world. It's a huge step up from the linear feeling layout of Midgar which almost gives it a similar feeling of playing the OG and seeing the big world open up after beating the Midgar section.

Overall this game is incredible and probably my favorite game of all time, and I recommend anyone even slightly interested in it to give it a shot while it's on sale whether that be on PC (fantastic port so far) or PS5 (typically cheaper). It's unfortunate that to get the most enjoyment out of it IMO you'll need to play at least Remake because this game is genuinely unreal. Most of my playtime on PS5 was me bewildered at the fact Square released something that feels like there was nothing out of their budget or scope. If the devs had an idea it was added, and I think that's where Rebirth gets its charm. It feels like a risky RPG akin to those from the 90s or early 2000s. I never write genuine reviews on games on Steam or I leave it short, but it's hard not to gush about this game.

finished the tutorial and crashed. feels like a mobile game. enjoy it for 6 months until nexon inevitably says it's under-performing regardless of how well it does and drops support long term

Can’t play it on my Ally without constant crashing. Went to play it on my rig with an Nvidia card and crashed after about 40 minutes while trying to save. Great games but it’s frustrating to have a chance for the game to crash every time I go to save or open a menu.
