To be frank i used to hate, or at the very least had a somewhat negative view towards this game because I've seen videos and heard about how weird (or sometimes dangerous) the people in this game can be. So previously i had the idea of never touching this game

But i eventually ended up downloading the game anyway because she likes playing this game and she brought up the idea of trying it out, and so i did. Main reason being i just wanted to hang out with her, so i launched the game without really any expectations or taking the game seriously at all

With that being said, after trying the game out it turns out to be quite alright. But maybe that's just because the only time i open this game is when she's around and i only go to rooms for learning languages, which is why so far i havent came across weirdos. And the people I've met so far are alright

The game itself is okay-ish, whenever i hear complains about the game it's usually almost always about the people playing and not the game itself. If you have someone to play the game with and make the game more bearable, or your intention with this game is to do something which won't involve weirdos also being there then i do recommend the game

At the time of writing this review, I'm pretty much done with the game, yes there are technically more stuff to discover (like new weapons and new gears, and i'm still on reputation 4 when the max is reputation 6) but in terms of the maps, enemies, and general gameplay i think i've seen most of it

This game gets compared to into the radius a lot and it's not hard to see why, but in some aspects i think this game has the upper hand. With that being said here are the pros and cons:

+ In into the radius the enemies you're shooting at are these shadowy thing which truth be said is not as satisfying as shooting an actual creature/human, which are the enemies in this game
+ The dog is not just a gimmick and its actually quite useful, in some cases even slightly too powerful because the dog itself can tank hella enemies (and even bosses) letting you shoot at them for free. Often times you can leave the raid completely untouched thanks to the dog. The only issue that i have with the dog so far is it has this tendency to suddenly run and chase after an enemy that's behind a wall, an enemy which you didn't even know existed so often times you end up having to chase the dog and kill said enemy
+ The loading screen for when you're going into the raid is nice, it's you (and the dog) driving your car which can be interacted with
+ The base has other human beings which you can interact with, some traders such as truffle are actually quite useful. In into the radius you barely see other human being around which can make you feel lonely at times

- As i said at the start of the review, i'm currently on reputation 4 and i'm already done with doing quests or wanting to progress further. This is mainly because the quests (especially later on in the game) are mostly just "get 5 of this items and bring them to me", which would be fine if these quests were only here and there. But it does feel like you come across these typa quests quite often. And eventually it gets quite annoying having to find the same items which you've sold to the traders before again and again. Though for some people this may not be an issue
- Only the bandits have ragdoll physics which makes it kinda weird when you kill other enemies and they all do the same death animation every time
- Money is quite easy to get and there's not a whole lot of thing that you can spend your money on. As i said before a lot of the quests are "find these items and bring them to me", it is very very unlikely to find all of these items in 1 or in a few raid. So often times you will go on a raid, find at most 1-2 of the quest items and extract with other loot which then you sell to traders. You then have to repeat this a few times until you find all of the quest items. Which means as long as you loot stuff (and why wouldnt you), your money will eventually pile up. So often times when i reach the next reputation and unlock new items which i can now buy, i can just buy all of them immediately and have pretty much nothing else to spend my money on aside from meds or ammo

With that being said, i still think the game's worth trying out. Especially if you grab it during a discount

(i had way more than 4 hours in this game, i used to play this game before it was on steam)

The obvious comparison to make here is with tarkov, I'm a tarkov veteran and i have to say i much prefer playing this than tarkov. This game is basically tarkov except you dont really have to nolife it to get anywhere in the game, and it's also much more accessible

Plus the fact that this game is free, meanwhile tarkov on the other hand is not (it's also quite expensive at that). And considering all the questionable decisions that BSG has made in the past (for example the whole unheard edition fiasco), i do believe that this game is better in tarkov in most ways

People have a lot of criticism for this game, be it cheaters or the balancing of the ammo. To be honest i dont think I've been killed by a cheater before, or even if i had it's probably only a few

And regarding the ammo (or balancing of the game overall), lets not pretend as if tarkov didn't have their own balancing issue. It exists in both game but again, this game is free and if you decided to play the game and then dropped it later, you dont lose anything

I used to play tarkov a lot but considering how BSG is handling their game and the fact that this game exists, why play tarkov instead of this? It's much more accessible while still having that tarkov feeling

The only negative thing that i can say about this game is how diabolically expensive their skins are, for example one knife can run you around $80-90 which is straight up insane. A single knife costing more than an AAA game should never be a thing

It sucks because there are a lot of people like me who like the game, and are willing to drop some money to buy skins, but due to how stupidly expensive the skins are it just puts us off

At the time of writing this review I've completed the main story mission, there are still other postgame stuff to do but i think im mostly done with the game

I enjoyed my time with the game, the soundtracks are actually quite great. The combat is great as well, it's like pokemon but with their own twists which i do much prefer compared to pokemon itself

My only real complain which only existed at the beginning of the game, is how the types of monster interact with each other. It can feel a bit overwhelming at the start but eventually you do get kinda used to it

Completed the main mission without really minmaxing my team, was using mostly the same monsters that i used since the beginning-mid game. So the fact that you can complete the game with basically any monsters that you enjoy is also great

Another thing that i feel the need to mention is that the platforming in this game can feel quite... unique sometimes, using the boxes/stones you can kinda double jump and get to places that you're probably not supposed to get to yet

It's been great so far, as someone who played tarkov, this feels like tarkov except you dont have to nolife it to get anywhere. The grind is still there, but it's at a rate that's much more accessible to more casual players

I only have 2 things that i somewhat dislike about the game so far, but it's nothing that dissuades me from playing:

1) I wish there was a better indication for when your shots hit the enemy, especially if it's a headshot. There are sparks that fly when you hit people, but at times it can be hard to tell, especially if you're playing on a smaller screen. If you're using a sniper, it can also be hard to tell whether you hit a headshot or a bodyshot.

Maybe as i play the game more and develop more game sense it'll be better, but as of now that's how i feel

2) I cant confirm this 100% yet, but speaking from my experience. When you're still new to the game you can still be matched against higher level people with better gears & more experience than you, which is obviously unfair. I've had moments where i died to people using mid-end game gears when i was still using the low level gears

Great so far, combat may be a bit challenging/frustrating in the early game, especially if you haven't played the previous title. But once you get the hang of it, it's quite fun

Though there are a few things that do annoy me:
1) There's this bug that as far as i can tell only happens on controllers, when you enter combat, the first time you hit the attack button it does nothing. So you have to attack first to get this bug out of the way, then you can actually start attacking. I went searching online and apparently this bug has existed since 9 months ago, weird how it's still not patched out yet by now

2) Sometimes when you're in combat, the shield icon for perfect parry/masterstrike will just randomly disappear. This doesn't happen all that often, but when it does happen it's quite annoying because trying to parry without it is quite difficult

I haven't played that much, but so far I much prefer fights in tight spaces over this. Here are a few reasons why:

1. Some cards feel like they're bugged, the card that stuns enemy when they have no block sometimes dont work. Which can be frustrating especially when you take unnecessary damage/even die due to bugs like this

2. The game doesn't run well on the steam deck, which is weird because you'd expect a game like this to run well but it doesn't. The game runs fine early game, but after that the performance just goes down

3. The artsytyle, the performance, and the UI somewhat make the game disorienting to play. Compared to the previous title where the UI, the performance, and the artsytyle is more sleek

4. This game now lets you have multiple characters in one run which is cool, but for people like me who prefer only playing 1 character it feels like you're at a disadvantage. Running multiple characters give you more momentum (basically means you can do more per turn). I wish the game wasn't so balanced around you running multiple characters, for people like me who prefer having only 1 character per run

Speaking of running multiple characters, i dont think it's done that well to begin with. Controlling multiple characters feels clunky and your characters share the same hand of cards at one time, which doesn't feel great to play

5. This point may come off as nitpicking, but the ragdoll for this game feels very weird, feels very "slimy" compared to the ragdoll in the previous title. Killing enemies feels way more satisfying in the previous title compared to this game

Maybe with more updates this sequel will be better than the previous title, but as of now i still prefer fights in tight spaces than this. The artstyle and gameplay itself are more sleek & clean compared to this

Though there are a few things from this game which i do like, and i wish they implemented in the previous title instead of making this game. Would've been the move honestly, fight in tight spaces is already a solid game, with more content updates it'd definitely be way better. I'm still not sure as to why they decided to make a sequel instead of just focusing on the previous game

Preface: This review is from the POV of someone who only plays tank and no other roles. I used to play this game on battlenet where I have around 1500 hours in total.

Tanking has always been one of the least popular roles in video games, but i think tanking in overwatch 2 especially is the least fun compared to other games. Go look at online discussions/forums/videos/etc about this game and you'll easily find other people who share the same sentiment. Here are my own reasons as to why I dont recommend this game as a tank player:

1. The shift from 2 tanks to 1 tank inherently means you carry the most burden in your team, dps and support both have 2 players so when one is underperforming, the other one can pick up the slack.

2. Because you're tanking by yourself and other roles still have 2 players each, this leads to a big amount of toxicity towards the tank. One person can say "tank gap" and everyone else can easily pile on that to cover their own gameplay and instantly have a scapegoat. Other roles both have 2 players so they can back each other up when the blamefest happens, but they know it's easiest to just point their finger at someone who's playing alone.

3. The playerbase for this game can be really toxic at times, im not sure why but there's something about this game that brings out the worst in people. Even other online games aren't like this. Be ready to get blamed for everything that happens, if something slightly goes wrong then you'll be the first to blame, people are really quick to blame and point fingers in this game.

4. Due to the nature of tanking, you'll always be on the frontline, everyone else will be hyperfocused on you which means everything that you do will always be highlighted. When you made a mistake everyone will see, which is different from other roles such as support who can see everyone because they're always at the back, and if they made a mistake it won't be as apparent. Which is why from my experience the flaming usually comes from the supports first.

5. Even when you're playing well, you're not exempt from being blamed, im sure every tank players have experienced being blamed when they are doing well, meanwhile other roles are very obviously underperforming. For example i had a game where we were losing, i was around 29-10 and my dps were 13-9 and 9-9, and of course the supports blamed me. Point is be ready to take all the blame all the time.

6. Even if we put the social aspects of tanking aside, tanking in itself doesn't very fun because you always feel like the punching bag for everyone. All the CCs will be thrown at you, and not to mention the insufferable counterswapping. I prefer playing heroes that i like, butt when the entire enemy team counterswap you, at that point it's really hard unless you swap to a different hero. This goes on and on. Your teammates will constantly order you to "tank play this hero, tank play that hero" but they often don't help you to counterswap the enemy team.

7. I feel like the only time tanking feels fun is when your teammates are better than the enemy team, so you don't have to be sweating your balls off to carry and you can just kinda chill. Though it feels redundant to say because obviously winning is fun, but that's about the only moment that i can think of where tanking does feel fun.

Will probably update this review later, still have some stuff i wanna say but i cant think of them right now. But you probably get the point by now
