This game gives you an overwhelming sense of triumph through sheer gameplay, pushing you past your limits through each small victory. Scoring is meticulous and pairs incredibly well with typical shmup routing, making you stronger the better you perform. The small story bits and incredible music only enhance the euphoric feeling the game intends to provide, making you feel like you really are one of the few that survived making your grand return to earth. Additionally, I find myself having an increased heart rate while playing and pushing past my limits; the best kind of game.

As I made it closer to 500 Seconds, my heart rate began to rise, I felt a wave of euphoria. Once I passed it, uncontrollable shaking and soon after, catharsis. One of if not the greatest video game of all time.

While I could go on forever about how I consider Hyper Demon one of the most well thought-out games of all time, I will do my best to keep this short. It absorbs me from start to finish of each attempt, trying to beat my high score and think analytically about my gameplay, all while mastering the basic inputs in my subconscious/muscle memory. Everything in this game is created intentionally, from the camera effects to the alternate firing modes/projectiles; Every system in this game feeds into one another. Despite the art direction seeming cluttered, everything is communicated perfectly, with the game even giving you eyes on the back of your head and utilizing recognizable enemy silhouettes. And for those reading that may be afraid of the game's speed, it allows for many moments of clarity and times for you to take a step back, analyze, and get right back into the fray. Please consider giving this game a shot, there is truly nothing else like it.
