Early Access Review
Valheim is peak gaming-experience. Difficult enough to be challenging, easy enough to enjoy. Not taxing system hardware, yet graphically pleasing and optimized for performance on most machines. Lots of new content being added, yet the Early Access offers a complete experience for under $20! Highly recommend.

Crimson Desert is a game of width, and not depth. It does a lot of things - it checks all right boxes, yet still feels like something really important is missing... that thing is PURPOSE. I'll explain:

What's the point of a fishing rod and fishing mechanic when the most efficient way to get fish is just grabbing them with your hands aka just long-pressing a button? You CAN fish, but there's not purpose to it because it can and should be bypassed for efficiency.

You want puzzles? CD has got plenty.
You want Fortnight gliders? CD has them too.
You want GTA5 character swapping? CD has your back (though there's absolutely no reason to play the other characters as they have no purpose other than to check the box that there is character-swapping).
The game is stacked with features, yet lacks a purpose for those features to fill. And that's the core problem.

The overall story is basic, there only because a game has to have one. The side quests are cookie-cutter, as you would expect from side-quests. The enemies are all "thugs/bandits" of the humanoid variety - no variety there either.

What's the point of trying to stay alive in a boss fight when you'll simply be met with a screen that says "Try again" with no loss whatsoever for failing? Death and failure mean nothing. No XP to lose (in fact the game has no XP system at all), no silver loss, no durability loss - Just "try again" until you win. Then all the NPC's will act like you beat the boss on the 1st attempt regardless of how many times it took. When there's nothing on the line whatsoever, the fights lack that sense of importance and purpose.

Despite al the negative talking points, I'm not going to give the game a "thumbs down". It just is what it is, and I think some people may find it fun despite the lack depth and meaning. Sometimes just having a wide variety of mechanics and vast open sandbox map to use them in can be entertaining enough. My only regret is buying the game at full-price rather than just waiting for the first sale on it.

Big learning curve, complex game, high-level RTS. Suffers from Paradox DLC spamming, but honestly the base game is plenty fine as it is.

A game where sometimes your teammates are the struggle and your opponents can become friends... stock up on loot and get out of there alive! It's a good time whether your play with a squad or alone.

It's a new Game Mode for Elden Ring... fast paced expeditions, but you do have to commit to the entire 35-50 minute game session (no pausing or quitting early). For the price, it's more than fair for the fun.
