I am a huge Hitman series fan. I really was very let down with Absolution, seeing them basically garrote all the key aspects out of the series and leave it for dead in a laundy bin in a dark secluded corner.

Then came Hitman. It looked great if the episodic bits scared me. Turns out it was pretty damn great and somehow the episodic format actually fits this game better than it has maybe any episodic game I have played, despite not being story focused.

Mechancially this is hands down the best Hitman game. It gives you a lot of cool options around the environment, like areas to conceal weapons, lots of little opportunities for sabotage, and a wide variety of improvised weapons you can toss into anyone's head like a true assassin would. There's also some really cool things going on with the AI and suspicion, where witnesses see you act and have to spread knowledge of your deeds to their allies. Meanwhile guards on the other side of the map are unaware.

The level design has been solid to great. Blood Money to me is a masterpiece as far as level design and this Hitman game is a bit uneven in comparison. Paris and particularly Sapienza are really strong levels in comparison to the series as a whole, while Morrocco and Bangkok were pretty limiting and straightforward, without the kind of crazy kill options that I really come to Hitman for. However, none are bad and there's still fun to be had.

The Elusive Targets are a brilliant addition. Yes, the execution of them isn't always amazing but just the one off tension in a Hitman game is brilliant.

Hopefully the last two levels are great and more is on the way. I really thought this series was done for and I am so happy to say that is not the case. Highly reccomended.
