Early Access Review
Failed runs (not even act 3) in this game take about an hour. Everything is spongey with armor for no reason and you do no damage unless you're doing specific and probably later game builds. The basic gameplay loop is incredibly slowed down and incentivizes playing defensively at range. Also, I am the clearly odd man out on this, but the writing is obtrusive and annoying, especially with the "goofier" or "sassier" characters. The second boss in particular is so cringey I had to turn off music and voices, but even outside of that there are constant dialogue dumps that anyone rational will be skipping through because the story just is not all that interesting in relation to the (expected) gameplay. Obviously it's early access but right now this game is not even close to as enjoyable as the first one.

Bought this day one and I'm four bosses in with several upgrades. I rarely write reviews but this really needs to be said here: this is about as clear a one-for-one ripoff of Hollow Knight you can possibly get, to the point of sheer theft.

Two of the bosses I have fought so far are direct clones of Hollow Knight bosses (Brooding Mawlek and Vengefly King); there are areas that are "gauntlet rooms", clear versions of the Colosseum of Fools; the upgrade system is just the charms and charm notches; the environment is full of hidden stalactites and foliage that can be destroyed; the enemies are largely insect "aliens", the majority of which behave the same as Hollow Knight enemies down to attacks and movements; the death system with a loss of one health token you can retrieve as well as the system of health upgrades is the same; even some of the visual effects such as your character being lifted and expelling a huge amount of particles is lifted straight from that game.

So, can I recommend this game? Not in good conscience, no. I can absolutely recommend Hollow Knight.

EDIT: Upon looking it up, this game has made 28k on Kickstarter. It is actively offensive to me that the creators would use donated money and the hard work of artists, only to plagiarize from an obvious source.
