This port is completely butchered. It has a massive scaling issues that screw up the visuals if you are running the games at anything lower than 1440p, and 0 options to choose your own scaling method.
Yes, I did disable post FX and other options.
No, it doesn't fix anything.
Having such lazy job for a $50 port shouldn't be tolerated.

The port in itself is very faithful to the original console version (and not the PC version), but I believe it's both a good thing for people that love punitive fps, and pretty bad for anyone else.

There was a lot of work and love put in upgrading the visual and sound, and they generally done a very good job porting the game and making it look new.
The original game also had tons of great ideas and good level design, that was a bit like metroid prime before that series even existed.
But it also aged quite poorly, and in this port they didn't make many quality of life improvement with the gameplay, and pretty much no tweaks to customize the player experience.
And I just don't understand why, when I see the amount of effort that was put in the rest.

Some examples of very frustrating stuff that can't be changed;
- life/weapon bonuses appear completely at random, and often are just monsters/traps, making your play either quite easy or very punishing (or anything in between) depending entirely of your luck, not skill
- you don't get any life/ammo back when you die or load a save, even between levels, meaning that if you pass a checkpoint or clear a level with minimal life and ammo, you will have very hard time continuing the game as any small enemy will kill you
- the hitbox of your character is HUGE. It's okayish when you are in large areas, but it's annoying to try avoiding anything in corridors. It forces you to run back to the beginning of the corridor, go again once the shots pass you, then repeat
- when using the action button to activate switches, the range of action is very short, meaning on the part where you have to activate something very fast, you'll miss it 2/3 of the time

To sum up;
Do I like the original game and what it represent? Yes.
Do I recommend this port for anyone? Depends.
If you love old school punishing and very random FPS experience, you might like it.
Else you will have far better experience staying with more classic doom-like/quake-like games.

Keep in mind that this review is very objective, you might not agree with it, and that's perfectly ok.

So we've been waiting forever for SE to release a proper update of this game on pc, but instead they give us a big middle finger by releasing a far superior version for the windows gamepass, showing us 2 things;

- they never cared about giving us a good version, and will never do because they already got our money
- they do know this version is trash, or else they wouldn't have made a brand new version for the game pass

This game is excellent! It combines the good old sonic style platform with a dose of new things to refresh the formula.
The game is smooth, pretty in his nostalgia pixel art style, well animated and the gameplay is precise, responsive and damn fun!
The level design is also really well made even if the levels seems a bit smaller than other games (which isn't always a bad thing).
If like me you like sonic but think the old school "one hit lose everything, one more hit die" formula is really outdated, like taking a hit every time you barely touch an ennemy, this game is for you!!
I basically takes what's good about Sonic and makes it better, way better.
For the price it's totally worth it, don't hesitate one second to buy it!

Can't get this software working on any of my machines.
Plus from what I saw on the forums, it doesn't seem to have any effect on PC with a clean windows install.
Don't waste your money on this...
