Got it on sale 90% off. Still feels like a waste of time. Why do I only get 1 license for free? Why do I even need to buy licenses to hunt the animals? Why do I have to pick the license first before I even know what animals are on which maps? Why is it impossible to retrieve ducks from a pond without buying a dog first? How am I supposed to know I need all that before I waste an hour of my time and just look it up from other frustrated reviews?

-Can't afford dog

-Buy small game and deer licenses for Texas
-Somehow bison live in the desert?

I love this game. I have been a huge fan of the first Helldivers game since its release and I'm loving revisiting the helldivers universe. The tone of the game is unique and the developers go out of their way to make the live service part of the lore both in game and on social media. I've been playing Helldivers 2 since release and I can't put it down. A constant community wide battle for the supremacy of Super Earth is a cool concept on its own, a feature shared by its predecessor. But the addition of new content tied to community wide goals is in my opinion the best way for the community to vote on what they want and be invested in the results. I've put just over 200 hours at the time of review, and I foresee myself playing for 200 more. The pricing model of this game is phenomenal and I commend Arrowhead for their respect for the customer. They are quickly joining my list of favorite game studios alongside Ghost Ship Games, makers of Deep Rock Galactic, and Larian Studios, makers of GOTY Baldur's Gate 3. I will continue to follow this game and when the studio eventually moves on to their next title I wonder how they will top this one.

It's like D&D but with space aliens, without other players, and without the roleplay.

The writing is cringe inducing and dated. The game mechanics are meh at best. Every singe character makes me want to punch them in the face. This game is basically knockoff silicon valley meets the HackerMan meme meets every singe "diversity hire" and their socialist ideology. You play as morally grey characters fighting against other morally grey characters. Except you have guns and kill people.

If you don't Rock and Stone, you ain't coming home.

The early release has a few annoying bugs but that is to be expected from any game released after 2014. If it never got another update I would rate it a 7/10 but with the promised bug fixes and performance optimizations this game could easily be 9/10 or higher. Hands down it is already my pick for Game of the Year.
