Early Access Review
Heavily Anticipated, Still Needs Work.
Overall, I enjoy the game, can see the potential, hoping potential is utilized.

Been following this game's page since early development, and I've been super excited for it to come out!!
Some things impressed or surprised me, others disappointed me, but I also understand that it's super early release, and still being worked on. So I hopped on with a friend, and figured after a few rounds, I'd leave a short review. I'm by no means a professional writer, so forgive me for improper grammar.

Things I Liked

The first thing my friend and I noticed was the seamless loading screen, and I much prefer that to the loading screens in R.E.P.O, or Lethal Company's freeze-frame loading screen (though that could be my personal performance....) It was much more immersive and immersion is a MAJOR part of scare factor (in my personal opinion.)
I enjoy the foster system, having to find and rescue children and turn them in to foster services, that's interesting, and something this genre of games doesn't implement often! The vent fast-travel system is also quite nice.
I also brought up that I like how the game will FORCE you to separate from your partner/group. All it takes is traveling through one vent and you've lost each other. Sure, you can spam through the vents to find each other again, and I'll admit, we did this a few times, but it's much scarier if you're forced into isolation by game mechanic, and it terrified the both of us every time it happened.
I also enjoy the ambience, it's very hard to tell what's an enemy, and what's just environmental noise. This had me on edge, hair standing, the whole time. That's amazing! That's what I play horror games for, I want to FEEL the terror.
I love how there's no tutorial forced on you, you kind of figure everything out yourself!
I know in the patch notes you mentioned you wanted to add a tutorial/guide for a future update, and I would very much recommend having an option in the settings to turn the tutorials off (similarly to how Slime Rancher does it.) That way, those of us who enjoy being lost and brute forcing their way into learning the game mechanics still can. Alternatively, it avoids the tutorial being forced on you every time you start a run.
I think a bestiary would be a wonderful thing to add regardless!
I love the maze-like halls, and getting lost, this just adds even MORE to the fear factor, though I will admit it's annoying for every room to look the same. There need to be better landmarks, or a map upgrade in the shop, or something. Some variety needs to be added.
The scanning mechanic is a nice touch, though this is one of the instances where I see a tutorial (for some or many players) may be needed, as my friend and I didn't understand what it did until one of us mis-clicked a button while looking at an object.
The graphics and overall style of the game make it feel vintage, or at minimum, early 2010s horror game. I very much enjoy this style of horror game! I do feel as though some graphics settings need to be added in the settings menu update/patch however, alongside the keybinds, or at least following it, my friend and I struggled a bit to read certain texts important to gameplay at first.
I enjoy the "HOPE" mechanic, it took me a bit to realize what it meant, as I thought this was a usual "meet your quota before the 3 days are up" type of game, but it's not! And that's quite refreshing to me.

Things I Disliked

This is one everyone is saying, and I'm also going to voice my opinion on it. The time you get to find the exit/filly and get to the train, vs the difficulty of the task, is damn near impossible. Many people are saying they were able to get their task done in time, and maybe it's because my friend and I did so much ♥♥♥♥♥-footing around, but with the spawn-rate of the entities, and our lack of knowledge on how to avoid them, we ended up only actually completing our task twice. We played for an hour and a half...
Speaking of, the entity spawn rate is still way too high, way too fast. I don't mind there being a ton of entities if you're out late at night, that incentivizes you to finish your task and get out before it gets dark, but with how quickly time passes it's still near impossible. Maybe I have a skill issue, maybe we weren't utilizing equipment and gadgets as much as we should be. (Like, geez, forgive me if I'm a little stingy with my money. lol) But with how many people I see saying the same thing.... I feel as though I'm valid in mentioning this point.
Basically, my recommended fix for the amount of entities spawning and making it super hard to get to your task and back to the train, is to just make the day last longer, while maintaining the entities spawn-rates increasing at sunset (4pm-6pm since it's set in winter.)
The entities models are horrifying, don't get me wrong, but.. the movements and animations take them from "sh*t my pants terrifying" to "goofy ahh" real quick. Their wandering behavior is also quite... stagnant. I think even just having them stand in the corner of a room or around the bend of a hall could bring their scare factor up a bit more, at least as a temporary fix for now. I would love to see some different animations, looking around, idly twitching and convulsing, stuttering or limping as they walk. However those are more long-term, far in the future fixes.
Lack of variety is another issues I saw. My friend and I found ourselves getting quickly bored of the loop, not to mention we got the delivery quest three times in a row, for our first three missions. Seeing other buildings would be nice too, especially for the rescue missions. Maybe we rescue them from hospitals, or warehouses sitting outside of a town, or school buildings, etc...
You could even add outdoor maps such as forests, I think it would be horrifying to see entities in the distance on a path next to you. Through the trees, unable to reach you, but you don't know where or when your paths will meet.
Point is, the balancing of which mission you get, what map you get, made my friend and I think that the delivery mission was the only mission, and the map layout where you spawn in the barricaded room with the corpse, was the only layout.
We also have not figured out how to use backpack items, which would be nice to have a paper in the train or in the home base that tells you what keys do what actions.

Final Thoughts

I hope any of this helps, a lot of things I mentioned likely won't see a fix until far into the future, but I'm ok with that! I'm simply bringing these points up to get the ball rolling, not only with you, but with other players as well! I love game devs who listen to their playerbase, and from your page on TikTok, I've seen that you do! I'm decently sure the entire reason you added the weeping angel entity was because of a commenter's suggestion! (I can't really remember the name of the entity currently.)

Friend and I enter building and open a door into a long corridor.
We start messing around with proximity chat, goofing off, singing.
I hear rhythmic thumping gradually getting louder.
Friend is still singing, doesn't hear it, I assume it is ambiance.
Screen starts shaking in tune with the thumps.
Look down the dark hall.
Something starts to walk into the light.
Immediately turn on my heels and run to the door we came in through,
Friend pauses singing, confused, "What are you doing?"
I shut the door behind me.
I hear him scream, and then crunch.
The monster got him.
I'm running, I never stopped.
I don't look back.
I don't even take the ladder, I just jump straight down, I take minor damage.
I don't stop.
I get to the ship.
Close the door.
Blast off.

Friend feels betrayed.
I am alive.

10/10 will leave friends behind for my own survival again.
(I have.)

So many game mechanics that similar games just don't have, despite only being singleplayer this game has fulfilled my needs in a pixel dating farming sim in so many ways. The leveling mechanic isn't tedious and grind-ey, you can check on your actual progress with the romance or friendship of NPCs, the NPCs have unique dialogue that gives them so much personality, not to mention I like.. want all of them.

My only gripe is that you can't romance the absolute DILF that is Holt. Give me my dad joke daddy please I bet he gives the best bear hugs I could treat him so much better than Nora :'(
(his wife is hot too tho ngl so just give me both of them rn)

The very first 6 notes you hear when you start up the game always put such a giant goofy smile on my face. They have since I first launched this game after buying it, I get all smiley and giddy.
I smile because I know what's coming, I know I'm about to be surrounded by silly little wiggly guys of all shapes, colors and sizes. I smile because I know, waiting for me, are little slimes who love me just as much as I love them. I smile because I have these little goopy babies that I get to care for and adore.
Sometimes when I'm playing, I'll go a while without doing anything productive. I'll just stare at a corral of slimes, or walk around my ranch and watch them bounce around. I'll even pause for a bit when I go out into the wild, and just watch them play and have fun.
Today I saw two honey slimes chasing each other down an incline in Starlight Strand, and then they each got distracted by something halfway down. One was curious about some food, the other stared in awe at a flutter slime. I can't blame it, flutter slimes are very pretty.
I have Tarrs off because this is a game I much prefer to relax with, and Tarrs are stressful, so the slimes have nothing to fear in my save. Their life is so carefree. I wish I was one of these funny little guys.
