9,876 Hours played
Destiny 2 used to be something special to me. It was not just a game, but a place where I spent 9,876 hours, built a community, supported active players, led a clan of around 100 members, and organized raids, PvP, and other group activities. This game meant a lot to me, which is exactly why it hurts so much to see what Bungie has turned it into.

The biggest problem is no longer just a few weak updates or one disappointing release. The real problem is that the entire game now feels like it has lost its direction, its ambition, and the genuine focus it once had. Instead of fully committing to their main franchise, Bungie invested too much time, energy, and development capacity into other projects, especially Marathon. And in my opinion, Destiny 2 paid the price for that.

Rather than strengthening the game that already had a huge established community and a proven foundation, Bungie split its attention across projects that much of the Destiny playerbase never asked for. The result is obvious: Destiny 2 no longer receives the same level of care, the content is less ambitious and less substantial than it used to be, and the whole game feels like it is no longer a real priority.

The content being released now feels cheap, cautious, and nowhere near as meaningful as what we used to get. It lacks scale, identity, and that feeling of being a real event the community could get excited about. For the prices Bungie is asking, I expect far more. Instead, it feels like we are getting smaller, more fragmented, and less ambitious content drops that simply do not offer the value Destiny once did.

The worst part is what this has done to the community. A live-service game does not die only when the servers go offline. It dies when clans fall apart, raid teams stop forming, PvP groups disappear, and the people who kept the community alive lose the motivation to continue. That is exactly what happened here. The community I helped take care of is effectively dead now, not because of the players, but because of a long series of terrible management decisions at Bungie.

This is not hate from someone who played for a few dozen hours and moved on. This is coming from someone who truly loved this game, invested years into it, and helped create a place for hundreds of other players. That is why I can say with confidence that Bungie made a huge mistake. Instead of fully focusing on Destiny 2 and giving its community a reason to stay, they poured too much time and too many resources into Marathon and other projects while their main game slowly lost quality, trust, and players.

After 9,876 hours, I uninstalled Destiny 2. Not because I never loved it, but because I loved it too much and could no longer stand watching what Bungie’s leadership was doing to it.

My review is no longer about how good Destiny 2’s gunplay or raids are. It is about Bungie wasting the potential of one of the best live-service games of its era by losing focus and prioritizing other projects over the game that built their modern reputation. And honestly, that may be even worse than if the game had simply been bad from the start.
