I played the demo for this game to 100% completion, then waited patiently for its full release, backed the game when the kickstarter was opened again a bit late, and now finally got my hands on this game

First things first, love the creature, huge fan, very normal about them.

It's a high speed 3D platformer with full mobility and a fixed camera, the controls are simple but you're required to manage them quickly and efficiently. You can meander your way through levels but they're very clearly designed with speed in mind, it's fun, but simultaneously *boy* can it be frustrating.

For context, I'm writing this as I hit world 9, I spent a good 30 minutes trying the first level with no success, not going for any specific completion just trying to get to the end, It's really godamn hard. 1-7 is a consistent curve upwards with the occasional unpleasant levels or sections, but 8 and 9 are monsters, unsure if the difficulty spiked or just reached beyond what i'm comfortable with, but it's really godamn hard. And not in a way that's satisfying admittedly. Frustrating level design is amongst this latter half.

That being said, i'm enjoying the game, will do my darndest to 100% the whole thing, but jeez.

oh also, game runs really well on linux, zero linux exclusive issues.

I really enjoyed this game, It's a game that pushes you to optimize the way you fight given a simplistic control scheme and touch enemies, it pushes you out of your comfort zone not letting you relax, but that comes with a admittely poor first impression.

The first two missions being basically the exact same set up an expectation that the whole game was going to be like that, and while I understand the star fox inspiration, i'd consider that a bit misleading putting that on the store page, the game is close to a twitchy 6dof shooter than star fox.

That being said, what's underneath is really cool, the game manages to set up a lot of intrigue and atmosphere with almost zero setup, the controls are simple, but the scenarios you're put in keep the game interesting. The boss fights are *so* godamn cool and the highlight of the entire game for me, and there's so many small touches, like stacking error messages trying to pause during a cutscene that stand out as bits of polish that really make the game just that bit more enjoyable, It's worth picking up for a playthrough.

I have maybe 3 cons to this game.

The first is it's a third person game, it's just a personal preference but camera peeking can lead to some boring gameplay, but the rest of the game makes up for it.

Secondly, half the time you spawn into a match after it's already in, like 10 minutes in when all the loot has already been taken, forcing pvp to get loot isn't horrible but it does suck when you just want a specific item.

Thirdly, this game uses AI voices for both the player grunts and the traders, besides all the other reasons why Gen AI isn't acceptable, it also just sounds cheap and bad, half the trader lines are read incorrectly by the AI with an odd inflection, hiring VA's would just be better overall.

But even on top of all of that, this game is a gem, It passes the incredibly low bar of being a feature complete game on launch AND having good performance. It plays nice, the sounds aside from voices are all wonderful, the game looks gorgeous and the gunplay is great. It's got sauce.

Hunt Showdown might be one of the most unique first person shooters on the market in terms of gameplay, fights rarely end in less than a second, while headshots instantly kill, and 90% of the weapons two tap to the chest, fights and encounters can last minutes as you're only using guns from the 1800s, anything that fires fast won't fire accurately, so you're stuck using bolt actions, lever actions and break action weaponry with one semi-auto Dolch prototype and the Avtomat a wildly innacurate full auto mosin.

This makes encounters both feel thoughtful and mechanically satisfying, shooting someone in the chest isn't a failure, they can no longer engage in the fight without risking going down so you have both bought yourself and your team time to attack without risk of taking damage from that target while also using up their healing resources. This means positioning, rotating and coordination are important strategic decisions to make, you and a friend shooting someone in the chest at the same time achieves the same result as shooting someone in the head.

There is actual play and counterplay in this game that isn't just mechanically aiming better, outplays aren't limited to what you can do in the 1 second after you take the first tick of damage, and while it is possible to just be downed instantly, bullets travel *very* slowly, accurate to their real world black powder counterparts, meaning running in and headshotting everyone isn't easy or consistent, you have the opportunity to just diff the opponent but it won't be a constant.

That is why I love this game, why i've stuck with it since 2020 through everything the game has been put through. There's nothing else like this that has such an audience, I might get burned out, I might not enjoy the current event gimmick, but i'll eventually find my way back. All I ask is crytek please, give my trapdoor springfield some love, I want shiny new animations and skins.

This game gives you a vivid but grim picture of a world in less than an hour, it's incredibly short but well written and well executed, The way the horror sets in for the player and character is a nugget of an experience I won't forget.

There's a self harm warning at the start of the game, this should be taken and considered VERY carefully, it's incredibly uncomfortable sit though, though that is part of the potency of this story.

You play as a lizard in a post-human world taking contracts in a dangerous zone to get out of debt, faced with creatures inspired by modern internet horror without actually delving into what I can only describe as "slop", it's heavily stalker inspired, specifically it feels a lot like stalker anomaly and it wears that inspiration on its sleeve but It stands out and makes the most of itself. If you like stalker it's worth your time, and though this project is ambitious i'm looking forward to what comes of it in the future.

tl;dr, if you like stalker give it a go.

I'm completely rewriting my review of this game, i'm leaving my old review intact at the bottom of this one to show how much my opinion has turned around on this game. I was willing to hear 1047 out for the re-release and that was worth it imo.
The original SG2 was fun despite it's mechanics instead of being fun for its mechanics, portal play really carried this game back then, but now? It's enjoyable all the way through. SG2 was undercooked even if you liked the class elements but what we have now is finally a real polished game worth your time. Everything feels fun and deliberate, they proved that SG1 wasn't a fluke and i'm happy that they did.
I wasn't a fan of pretty much everything they cut out of the game, classes, abilities, the BR mode, I stuck with all of them for a while but never felt dedicated to the game because of them, I do kinda miss firecracker but honestly I get its removal.
I wish 1047 luck in getting an audience for the game, I really hope it maintains something, i'll be sticking around for as long as OCE remains populated but, man i'm glad to be back.
Also game runs great on linux,

I like this game, It's fun, the gameplay is fun, the modes are fun, even the most derivative BR i've ever played is fun, that's why this is a recommend, but man, the devs are trying their hardest to change that.
That summer games fest announcement was a disaster, and it's not the only time I've heard them cause issues by directly speaking to the community from during SG1 days, they need a PR team and they need to shut their mouth.
It irks me, enough that despite being all aboard prior to release, despite buying the founder pack, I'm probably not going to stick around, good job 1047, you took my money, judging by the BR release and the store, that seems your goal by any means necessary.

Hidden gem is a phrase thrown around a lot, I don't like using it, but it's probably the best description for this game.
I love it, I love it so much, words can't express my enjoyment and enthusiasm for this game, It makes me incredibly sad to see it left behind in the current indie market, it deserves so much more.
"Interactive Theatre" is such an apt description for this game, everything feels like it was written for a stage play, its visual aesthetic and mixing of real world photography with digital clay and crafts is a delight to watch, it's just such a wonderful little game that is going to stick to me forever.
My only complaint, is there's scenes where the serious moments aren't given time to stop being serious, you immediately transition to a joke or another gag scene entirely that feels a little out of place for the tone that was set, this is not a huge issue but is what I would consider an easy fix to make everything punch that little bit harder.
At the end of the day, I can't recommend the game enough, it's wonderful.
