Initial impression is it's good, but probably gonna wait for a sale or something before giving it a full playthrough, $100 maple dollars is a lot.

Fighting and movement feels a bit stiff and the cutscenes going from 30fps to 60+ regular gameplay is a bit jarring.

EDIT 2: The servers have literally never been worse

EDIT: Nothing's changed and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with private steam accounts are more interested in personally attacking me rather than reading my thought out review.

I'm dropping a negative review but I'm willing to change it with improvements to the game. I'm hoping the feedback I'm going to drop below will be useful to the devs. I really like this game and it has a ton of potential, so I'm being really critical in the hopes this gets the devs's attention.

For some context, I've played over 8000 hours of Rocket League in total. I know pretty well what makes a good physics-based / competitive title.

1. Servers: This game is in dire need of better servers. The mix of quick animations and wonky servers can make for a deeply frustrating experience when both clash in a nasty way.

There is nothing more frustrating than being a goalkeeper in this game with these servers. You will position yourself perfectly for an incoming shot, dive for the ball, hear the sound of you catching the ball (maybe even see your character catch the ball for a second) only for the ball to phase right through you and into the net. And the replay makes you look silly because at no point does it look like you made contact with the ball.

Sometimes defensively you'll also go for a sliding tackle, only for the ball to rubberband and nothing to happen, etc.

2. Crashes: This game will crash. Fortunately it's not often enough for it to be unplayable, but very clearly it's not due to the end-user. I've played with people and seen multiple people crash at the exact same time.

3. Bugs: There are a few bugs that immediately ruin the gaming experience. Main one is your character all of a sudden can't catch the ball at all, unfortunately I witnessed that once and it made the game borderline unplayable (had to quit the game for my sanity). Aside from that I've caught the ball as a goalie in the net, only to start coming out of the net and then all of a sudden a goal happens as if I own-goaled.

Pretty good, maybe worth giving a preface that it's really hard and you might need to look at the wiki a bit to get yourself situated as it's not the kind of game that'll tell you really clearly what you're supposed to do (as someone who went to the last area of the game without doing everything needed before!).

EDIT: As an update, I just finished the game. Pretty good, but in terms of the horror aspect I feel as though introducing weapons can really turn down the spook factor because the monsters become something you can take down. I would say 80% of the time I wasn't really scared, however the game has some cleverly placed moments where I felt unsettled, more often than Resident Evil games.

My comments below on performance still apply.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:

Still playing this but so far really enjoying it. Tense atmosphere and it feels like there's a nice progression in this game where things don't get overly repetitive.

Performance wise, I'm using a 3070 and 5600x, unfortunately this game could still use quite a bit of optimizing as I'm averaging around 60fps (ray tracing on, DLSS on, mid-range quality/performance settings) despite really dropping some settings. Occasionally the game drops significantly in FPS: sometimes tweaking a setting fixes it, etc. That said, haven't experienced single digit FPS.
