This is a superbly wonderful and loving remaster. The game is beautiful and the updated music is sublime. Text is also easier to read. 10/10 recommend.

Premise of the game is very cool and the complexity and nuance is par for the course for Paradox. Ship design, exploration, and diplomacy are all well done, and the crisis/events add flavor to each game. That said, combat, while beautiful, is simplistic, boring, and infuriating. As long as you somewhat pay attention to hard-counters then it is merely whoever brings the largest doomstack wins. Furthermore, you have extremely limited control over your fleet while in combat. Oh, you wanted your fleet to focus on the power spaceport instead of the measly mining stations in orbit of the planet? Yeah no, your fleet will likely plink away at the mining station while getting blasted by other more immediate threats.

I still enjoy the game but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is the combat frustrating. Overall: 7/10
