Hesitant recommendation. I think there's a lot of fun and potential here. I've enjoyed my first 6 or so hours of the game. it definite is clear this was formerly an MMO with how long the intro to the game is and just how it feels with discovering skills and things to do. I'm 75% through chapter 3 currently. I'm def hooked on the world and setting. Just unlocked fishing a bit ago and I'm trying to figure it out. Just did my second bounty with Blix and that was a bit... cumbersome? Had to stalk him for 5-10 minutes separated from his group to tackle him, and he kept aggroing to me due to birds and other nature creating noise as I crouch-snuck on him. Finally tackled tho. Would be nice to still have a tackle option when their health is low during combat or using the first option.

The downside? Performance for sure. I have, as my specs show, a 4060 and a Ryzen 5-7640. The game set me default as ultra. That was NOT a good experience the first 5 minutes. After over and hour of tweaking down and down I finally landed on Medium textures, low everything else, but at least the weather setting is on (ray tracing is off, causes -5FPS). When exploring in the world i generally maintain 60 or so fps. Within Hernand Castle? 50-58ish, some angles 60 fps esp when going into buildings. I do think there could be a lot of optimization for those of us with 2-4 year old rigs, esp in the modern market. I have to have DLSS 4 on with DLAA on, and it looks pretty decent. There are some angles where its clear the AI is filling and makes things strangely blurry. The rain effect only works at certain angles strangely enough. Really tho, performance in these city zones could def use some work, as well as reducing the "shimmering" for those of us having to us DLSS/DLAA. Def do some optimization to the game and I will 100% recommend.

only get if you're willing to have some frame drops or if you have a newer comp

Early Access Review
Edit: well, i had hope for this project like many. didn't spend all to much, just the $100 pack like 2 years ago. sad to see the MMO genre continue to have difficulties getting new projects off the ground. guess i'm sticking to OSRS for the foreseeable future. o7 to this and to new world.

hell, i even bought terraria ♥♥♥♥♥♥ 15 years ago and it is still getting updates and going. go buy terraria instead of this

man steven, just why. don't buy it lads

I linked my account a week ago and I got in quickly and effectively. Have most of you considered not procrastinating (for those who purchased before)

I can understand people who freshly bought being a bit annoyed. But aren't you guys kinda used to this yet? It happens every time. Silksong took down steam

Good experience so far. Systems are def improved a bit since my last experience with alpha 2 in March 2025. Excited AF to learn summoner

Yeah, I immediately see why people are in love with this game. I'm not normally an extraction enjoyer but this really hits a nice spot.

Bought the game, immediately wasted 2 hours of my day playing it. Supremely addicting, very simple but lot of great animations going on with a simplistic upgrade system that all feeds in on itself. Fun progression, dunno what's past the wall but I'm enjoying having gotten there. hoping for a good amount of time longer with it!

I will always remember silksong crashing steam for upwards of 2 hours so far as of this review, me buying it from humblebundle, and seeing I was probably one of the last steam keys sold on there before it went out.

We waited 6-7 years through insanity on r/silksong and it was worth.

This game is Team Cherry's Dark Soul's 2. Knowers know

First 3 areas are already insanely gorgeous. I feel like Team Cherry heard the Dark Souls comparisons with Hollow Knight and decided to run with it. The first major combat area's music screams dark souls to me in the best way possible. The combat is similar, yet quite different with hornet's jump and down-attack. I'm not very far ofc, but I am glad to have been there for Hollow Knight's release and now Silksong.

W Team Cherry. Keep going.

Alright, so far this game has been pure and utterly addicting. It reminds me, in the best ways, of the point and click 90/2000s games I grew up with in the computer lab as a kid. This feel exactly like the kind of game you would try to secretly play while done with your typing exercises in school, and I adore that dopamine grind. The game's loop is super simple: fish, either manually or with idle mode at a reduced money exchange, buy more equipment, go to new places, keep going. I recently got addicted to OSRS's point-and-click style and if you play with m+k this fits perfectly for that kind of vibe of mouse only gaming. I do overall prefer controller tho, which will be mentioned below.

I have had a handful of issues however:

When the game is in fullscreen mode, after 3-10 minutes, the screen will begin to flash black to the game. I'm currently using steam big picture mode on my Lenovo Legion 5, ryzen 7640, nvidia 4060. This is really annoying and does make me want to quit sometimes. It stops after using the windows multi-window menu or alt+entering twice to enter and go back into fullscreen. Can we just get standard fullscreen or windowed options? I think this would possibly fix the issue. The game also on/off has framerate issues. Sometimes when playing the game i get as low as 30-40 fps, and other times i perfectly get 144 fps (my screen's refresh rate). Unsure as to what the cause is. I think its related to this fullscreen implementation.

Edit: I think the issue is related to opening the game in big picture mode, as it has issues and often semi-crashes/freezes and unable to do nearly anything except open menu to exit when you use shift+tab or the steam home button to open big picture steam mode options while in full-screen game (using alt+enter ) or without big picture mode still with shift+tab

Otherwise I use a switch controller and many of icons of the button to press are wrong. For example, when pulling into the dock going to the shop is shown as the A button (what would normally be the bottom green button on an xbox layout controller) but for a switch controller i have to press B (bottom button on switch ABXY layout). Map and Log is also backwards. But when pressing the start button, A is confirm and b is back still? As well as when purchasing inside the shop? Is there a way you guys could have the button iconography align with the correct input?

Otherwise, my god, I am gonna keep playing this a lot. Idly.

Look, I hated this game growing up. I had access to WoW, Maplestory, my gameboy color/advance, my n64/gamecube, and my xbox. Why would I have wanted to have played a simple click browser game when I had games with "more depth"?

Now in 2025? I get it, i really do. this game is a relaxed, unique MMO that loves engulfing itself in the singleplayer experience with a shared world. This game is great to play while doing other stuff, or engulfing yourself in some socializing.

I'm doing a HCIM Blind No Quest Helper run and its been great. I love having a new fresh experience for the first time, and I don't mind playing slow and steady at all. The playstyle of caution lends itself well to my newcomers mindset, having played HC WoW and HC Poe1+2. I'm very glad they added map binding to ctrl+m, now just make it a rebindable keybind like the function keys!

I like this game, and I don't get the emotional reaction to this being "bad" just because its different. Don't get me wrong, there are parts of this formula that can be fine tuned (rerolls on ♥♥♥♥ loot draws, duos which are coming, improved map diversity) but overall this is an amazing, fun game. The gameplay loop is much faster than any fromsoftware game to this day, and I personally like that. I play revenant as my main currently, and the diversity in build options is insane. Granted, I get frustrated when I go whole matches without getting a single good finger seal or erdtree seal but it makes me think on my feet, and tbh not every run should be perfect with the loot! And the whole "reused asset cash grab" mindset is insane. There is so much love in this game, and as someone who only just is getting into this franchise since elden ring (I tried DS1 in 2019, got mad at the demon and didn't know to run past) i LOVE revisiting all these bosses. Even if the bosses are directly "copied" in (centipede demon, nameless king, godfrey etc) they have new abilities, new moves, and an updated animation set. Also, the network connection here is divine! I have had no problems at all, which is crazy considering ds1-3 and elden ring having a lot of rubber banding and strange things.

I do understand the complaints that this feels like a mod or something half-baked. Those are valid complaints to me. In fact I do think that if Elden Ring came out in something like 2000-2010 during the couch co-op era this is exactly what we would have gotten as the bonus multiplayer mode that every game used to come with.

Buy it and play it if you like souls formula that endlessly loops, esp as they add more and more content.
