Being a big fan of walking simulators like "Gone home", "What remains of Edith Finch" and "The Vanishing of Ethan Carter", I was intrigued to play this game. I finished it in one sitting, which took me around 4 hours.

Before i get to all the complaints i have about this game, I would like to mention all the things it does well.

PRO
- The audio design is fantastic, the binaural sound let's you hear every floorboard creeking in the old hotel.
- Visuals are pretty good, not the best in the genre, which is known for using a lot of the photorealistic "Unreal Engine Demo Style", but there are a lot of details in the enviroment and the objects you can examine
- The atmosphere is by far the best quality of this game. I'm a big fan of 'The Shining' and the hotel in the game is more than an obvious nod to the Overlook hotel from 'Shining'. Down to the floorboards and room layouts, everything is reminiscent of Kubricks' masterpiece. Really makes me wish for an actual licensed game in the Shining universe.

CON
- Even for the Walking Simulator Genre, this offers not enough gameplay variety. Every item you find and can use is pretty much useless, you don't even necessarily need a flashlight. There are no real puzzles whatsoever and you just walk from point A to point B
- Now the worst: The conclusion to this story is downright disgusting. And not in a good way. While I think the topics of pedophilia and suicide, should and have to be discussed through various media, like videogames, the way they handled them in this game, especially towards the end is disgraceful and disrespectful to people with actual suicidal tendencies. While other games or tv shows handle suicide with at least a bit of tactfulness, here it is just played up for shock value without any reason. I actually think the story had much potential, if they hadn't shown suicide in a way almost reminiscent of '13 Reasons Why'.

I think you'll have a great time for a nightly binge, if you wanna experience a "shining type game", but please be aware that the display of mental illness in this game is absolute garbage and shouldn't be taken seriously.

"I expect you to die" is a stylish puzzle / escape room game with fun riddles and James Bond flair. The base game is already good, but the DLCs make it even better. Death Engine's ending is poetic. Great VR game.
