Pretty fun and compentent top-down shooter that infuses the "survivors" gameplay elements into a more traditional mission based top-down shooter.

I also like that this game varies the gameplay by offering different weapons or objectives per level, and slowly introducing you to the abilities and upgrades. (There's also like boost pads or something that reminds me of the "slide" in the board game sorry!). Varied locations, too! - nice to see something unique each level instead of the same boring arena over and over again!

The survivors like mechanics are just a series of straight forward stat upgrades that are reset on a per-level basis. And also manually activated abilities with cooldowns.

There's a campaign and then also traditional survivors-like levels to play on.

I was pleasantly surprised by how fun and engaging it was, how it gently introduced you to new mechanics, instead of just throwing you in the deep end with everything unlocked and "oh, here are ten pages of text to tell you what to do". Nah, it's just one or two things at a time, much appreciated so I get to shoot stuff in-between reading.

eh, it's alright. Feels more like a free game. I don't think there's that much content. I beat the first chapter of 3 in just 10 minutes.

Here are my main (constructive, I hope) criticisms:

All levels are very similar looking: same colors and same simple assets just placed around with some brick wall blocks to break up the level some. No jumping and no verticality - no even just a little.

Enemies blend in to the level architecture (and fog) too easily. You have to watch for movement to tell where most of the enemies are - a bit easier to spot the ones that shoot (bright square chunks flying at you) or some enemies have slightly different color, and some are big dragons and their curved wings jutting up kinda gives them away in front of more blocky architecture.

The blood splatter is too much: too big and too bright, (but yet lacking a satisfying "SPLOOSH" (or whatever) sound effect). It's already hard enough to see the enemies but the huge explosion of bright red squares and the bright white skull effectively block your view to any enemies behind the fireworks show. So how can you easily tell if there's more enemies and you should keep firing or if now is a good time to reload? That's an important thing to consider, because you only get 20 rounds in your magazine for the automatic you start with. (but you can collect gold and upgrade your guns - first rifle upgrade gets a 30 round mag)

Also, while ammo is enough to make it through, you're limited to carrying 100 rounds in reserve for your starting rifle. SO DO NOT go picking up ammo if you're still around 80 or more rounds - not worth it. (unless you cleared the level, by all means stock up so you're full for the next one. I also totally forgot I had a pistol... probably because most other games will switch automatically for you when you're out of ammo?

You have to manually reload (no biggie, IMO. It's "realism", right?) Perhaps this was intentional as a way to account for not being able to switch weapons in the middle of reloading (and cancel the reload, which IMO would be preferable). I mean, what's the point of having a pistol for a backup when your primary is empty if you can't switch to it because your character is reloading...

Aiming doesn't zoom in to help you see any better (the iron sights are so small with standard FOV) so instead all it does is obscure your view more with the gun model raised up higher.

No mouse sensitivity slider, but at least for me it was alright.

The mechanics are present, but it's still very lacking, even at $1.50.
On the plus side, it works, no crashes and runs smoothly.

Fun 2D imagining of CoD Zombies.
Its got ADS mechanic, too, which I like and also melee attack.
You can buy perks/modifiers to change starting equipment in the menu before you start a match.

No grenades, sadly.
And unfortunately runs slow on my system (maybe b/c I'm running multi-moniors?).

Nominated for Labor of Love 2024 b/c the dev keeps updating, adding content periodically, and fixes bugs.

I played this before the enhanced edition came out.

Let me tell you, enhanced edition provides nice quality of life improvements. Customizable controls and direct gamepad support (no more using joy2key), even menu navigation with controller.

While it's still a much, much simpler hover racer akin to wipeout, it's still plenty competent and it's free.

Yes there are better hover racing games out there, but if you want something simple and free and easy to jump into, there's still fun to be had at a price you can't beat.

There's a lot of indie top down zombie shooters out there. Happy to say this is one that's got some charm, and some meat to it. Permanent character upgrades to unlock, horde modes/maps, campaign, 4 different characters ( I don't think it affects gameplay though, but it's nice to get a choice of who to play as). Nice pixel graphics, an aim down sights mechanic (which I enjoy), dodge mechanic (excellent for these kinds of games), helper drone (that can be turned off if you want), 2 ultimate abilities you can charge up and use, several different weapons. Weapons feel good to use with nice sfx, pixel blood, and some exploding enemies - makes for an enjoyable and visceral combat experience. Small levels/sections but unique and interesting locations. Fairly decent amount of enemy variety, IMO, and I probably haven't seen everything yet.

This game offers a fuller experience than a simple one (or a handful) of horde mode maps to play on. Totally worth price on sale. I'll also say its similar to or reminds me of Bit Gun - so if you've played that game try this game, too (or vice versa).

I got my $2 worth before this became free to play.

It's a competent, casual, survival arena shooter. A mini CoD zombies experience. Buy guns/ammo off the wall or from the random weapon machine - this is the only place you can get the special weapons, and there's a pile of ammo boxes in the levels where you specifically buy ammo for the special weapons. You can also buy upgrades for each weapon on the fly - upgrade your damage, magazine capacity; buy a different sight, grip, stock.

When you die, you'll earn XP to purchase/unlock new characters, weapons & skins and new maps. There are 3 different characters ("classes" might be an understatement) that each have a unique advantage when playing as them.

Only problem is this game can crash when you get more zombies than you're machine can handle... and then you don't get any XP from that epic run. I was getting crashes around wave 30 with a GTX 970 (if I remember correctly). So I haven't been able yet to get the later round achievements :/

But again, this is now free, how can I not recommend. I'd still recommend even at $1.

Yes, I already own the BL2 DLC version, and yes, I still chose to buy this (@ half off).

What I appreciate from this is you can just jump right in to this campaign with a fresh new character. You don't have wait until you beat the whole main campaign to unlock playthrough 2 to go into this campaign. One of my gripes with the BL series DLC is that you can't just continue with playthrough 1's difficulty, because on playthrough 1, enemies' max level is 30 (or based around a max level of 30). You're likely going to be past that after the campaign and then there's no challenge if you go into the DLC's on playthrough 1. ( I made the mistake of going into Capt. Scarlett's campaign right after main game, on playthrough 1 - no challenge (with a few exceptions)). And playthrough 2, you're under-leveled for the enemies you're facing, and/or your guns suck because the level scaling is so accelerated. (A major con IMO of BL2 vs BL1 - the guns in BL1 could still be effective up to about 10 levels beyond their min. level requirement. BL2 exponential level scaling is too much IMO.) This stand-alone expansion also lets you replay it on a playthrough 2 difficulty, too, so that is nice.

The next significant difference is that when you level up you gain 2 skill points. This is a lot more fun getting more powerful quicker. And it works well considering this is short campaign - still a good length though, I think. (I've not yet completed at 11 hours into it (doing all available side-quests)) I also think it's more from to just start back at 0 (well, level 1 technically) on a brand new adventure. Facing enemies for the first time as a nobody, with only your guns and wits about you. Then you keep progressing and build yourself into a bada$s. If you're already level 50 going in, there's not much progress to experience playing this, only the adventure in the new setting.

All DLC characters from BL2 are available to play in this, also.

Also, new enemies, new locations. A new experience with the same known mechanics. But there are new grenade types that are like spells - elemental attacks in a way, and these special grenades regenerate (like akin to regenerating MP). So that's cool. The infamous BL humor is present, and ALL your favorite characters from BL2, Marcus, Mr. Torgue, Moxxi, Ellie, Tina (of course), Jack, and our white knight, Roland.

One thing I don't like is that character customization unlocks from BL2 don't carry over, that would've been nice. So I'm unlocking skins I've already unlocked in the main game. This has got some new skins specifically for this game/DLC, though, which is cool.

Worth it to me for $5, but I can totally see how many people say its not worth it, especially if you already own the BL2 DLC version.

Don't expect to find a review of the game here. First level requires precision platforming/timing - I can't get past it (yet). Those stupid spikes insta-kill you just from touching the side of them (as with any old-school game I suppose... *sigh*). So I haven't even got to see what this game has to offer. Can't even play the survival mode without beating the first level. Looks like a cool game with the monsters that are shown off in the trailer, but I may never know. :(

This would be alright... if it we're for bugs that are holding me back from progressing.

Since there's no MP community, you're essentially playing just the survival missions. Enemies drop ammo & health and you can earn money (and use real money to buy in-game currency). In the menu you can buy weapons that are unlocked and more grenades/traps/ robot allies, etc, and also upgrade your weapons (VERY expensive). And new items only available after unlocking them, I guess you've got to level up to unlock them. And then there are randomly generated quests which give you rewards (grenades/items, money, etc.) - I think they're on just maps you've beaten/unlocked. But I haven't been able to get past level 2, the tunnel. Every time I've played it I've encountered a bug that's prevented me from killing an enemy. First time, an enemy got stuck inside a shipping container - you could see him sticking out through the sides. I think grenades might have damaged him, but of course I ran out! The second time, a dog I was shooting at just disappeared but was still attacking me - I thought it had just turned invisible (not on purpose, a bug). But I think it actually got stuck UNDER the level geometry and kept following me around. But of course my bullets wouldn't go through the ground so I couldn't kill it...

Otherwise, would be an alright simple game to kill time with.

I'm stuck on

Game consists of killing these fast worm type things (that I've seen in another very similar game & that have no AI other than B-line towards you), picking up skulls, finding weapons/health, finding the exit.

Then go to the next level and do the exact same thing.

- No progression.
- You can't spend those skulls you collect on anything.
- Levels are procedurally generated but look and play the same.
- New enemy types offer little variety
= No incentive to keep playing.

Looks like a re-hash of "Slug Blast" which is no longer on steam store.
https://v1.steam.hlxgame.cc/app/618540

I feel like I had more fun in that game, than this one.

Also, you know how in some FPS games the camera will "roll" left/right to simulate weight/momentum shift? This game does something like that, except from top down view it actually "yaw"s (rotates about vertical (or in this case, the camera view) axis) - kind of wonky feeling.

Improvement suggestions for Dev:
• Add a melee weapon to destroy the boxes without consuming ammo/energy, and would also act as a backup when out of ammo/energy for weapons.
• Maybe change weapons to use ammo that has to be found
• Or a buy an airdrop of ammo as something to use thsoe skulls for (and just make them coins, they look like enemies coming after me)
• Grenades
• Boss enemy and actual end game
