Overview: (TL;DR:)

This game had a rough launch; many people who bought it were originally disapointed. However, more than a year and a half later, I can say with confidence that this game is 100% worth buying, and an absolute blast, even if you play it solo. I have just a few gripes with the game, but over all I would rate it a 9/10. Additionally, the game is almost always on sale, so while I would recommend buying it at $50.00; this game is a steal at its discounted price ($20.00)

(more indepth review)

Starting with some basic things this game does great:

-Stunning graphics
-A meticulously detailed map of new york, with so much to explore and immerse yourself in you can spend hours just walking around the map. While the map is a bit small, the devs went for quality over quantity, and the map is so densely packed that you never feel like the world is too confining.
-Enough endgame content to entertain you and your friends for weeks

The aspect of this game that is so unique is the endgame. I will admit that the first part of the game, grinding to level 30 and then ascending the world tiers, is a bit boring, especially if you are alone. However, it is all worth it when you reach the endgame, as it almost becomes an entirely new game. The endgame PvE missions are challenging and fun, and require you to strategize with your teammates, creating builds that compliment each other, and devising new plans on how to attempt missions. One example of this are the endgame incursions, which are 45-60 minute long strikes, that are extremely difficult, but unbelievably rewarding. The two main incursions, Clear Sky and Falcon Lost, took my friends and I hours upon hours of attempts, learning from our mistakes and trying over and over until we eventually pulled through.

Additionally, the endgame PvP scene is equally as challening, and even more rewarding. I will admit that there are a few problems with the PvP in this game, but they are very small (more on that later). Exploring the Dark Zone is an adrenaline-pumping experience, especially since the best gear is there, along with the most dangerous enemies (included enemy players with devastating min-maxed builds). And for those who seek balanced PvP, the recently added Skirmish mode is an absolute blast, pitting 2 teams of 4 players against each other, and balancing all stats so that some players don't dominate (it still happens, but at least it's a little more fair)

Now, on to some of the problems the game has.

Let's start with the story. If you are looking for a game with a captivating, polished storyline, you won't find that here, unfortunately. The story doesn't make much sense and the characters are completely forgettable, but the missions themselves are fun. Also the writing is so abysmal that one of the highlights of the story missions is laughing at the dialogue between characters.

My other gripe with the game is that in endgame PvP, it is nearly impossible to win against someone who has a better build than you. And for the most part, this was ok, because most of the best gear isn't very rare, and only takes a little bit of grinding. But then they added classified gear sets, which are unbelievably overpowered and rare builds. I have seen people take on a team of 4 by themselves using these builds, and after hours upon hours upon hours of grinding, I have not come across enough classified gear to make a build out of it. If the developers made classified gear a little bit less rare (currently they are rarer/as rare as Exotic gear), then the disparity between players in PvP could be smaller, which would make the endgame PvP more accessable to all players.

However, these problems barely take away from the game, and I truly believe this game is sure to be worth a buy, especially when it's on sale.

TLDR: This game has the potential to be absolutely amazing, but its terribly broken diplomacy and AI leaves me, and many other fans of the series, dissapointed.

Civ 5 was one of my favorite games of all time. I will admit, when it first came out, it was not a very good game, and had many problems. Through the various DLCs, however, Civ 5 evolved to be a legendary game. One can only hope that the DLCs will make Civ 6 what Civ 5 was, but this review is focusing on what Civ 6 is in its current state.

Let's talk about the pros of the game first. The developers definitely deserve a lot of credit, and this game has alot of amazing aspects that make it amazing:

1: Graphics: This topic is completely up to personal preference. Alot of people complain that this game looks like a free to play mobile game for 10 year olds, but I dissagree. I really like the graphic style, and it is a really bold move by the developers. Nonetheless, it looks great and it really adds to the aesthetic of the game.

2: Districts/City Building: The mechanics of building your own civ, and everything to do with your own civ in this game is great. I'd say its better than Civ 5 even. The district concept is a great addition to the game, forcing you to use a lot more strategy in where you place farms and buildings, along with dictating where you settle. The housing and new amenity system (a replacement for civ 5's happiness) is absolutely great, limiting your population growth in a way that doesn't just piss you off (like happiness did to me in civ 5).

3: Military/combat: The new combat system is interesting, and while I think it was equal to civ 5's, some people think it is vastly superior. Instead of focusing your military on pure size and strength, there is a lot more strategy and thought that goes into building your military. Units take longer to build and cost more to buy (for the most part), so you have to be thoughful of what you are builidng/spending your money on. The corp and army system is interesting, even though I find it useless, but it still adds to the game. But the most interesting aspect to military are the new support units. These units can stack with your other units, and provide massive boosts to your battalions in battle. They include battering rams, which make your units do more damage to city walls, siege towers, which work similarly to batting rams (allowing you to ignore a city's walls), Medics, which heal adjacent units, etc. Civ 6 sacrifices the aspect of having a large military, and replaces that with a more specalized military. I do think that there arent enough units in the game (Knights upgrade directly into Tanks, with no heavy cavalry in between), but I definitely think future DLC's will add more Units into the game.

Okay. Now that I said everything good at the game, its time to talk about diplomacy.
Diplomacy is completely broken. When I say diplomacy, i just mean AI and their interactions with you (and how they play).

First off, let's start off with how the AI plays. The AI doesn't know how to play. That's pretty much it. On prince difficulty, where neither the player or the AI gains bonuses, the AI falls behind almost immediately, and by the end of the game, you feel like you are playing on Chieftan. The first game I played of Civ 6 I won a science victory on turn 295 (I had 3 capitals by turn 40 because the AI didnt know how to protect their cities early on, so I had monsterous science and production), Anyways, the second place AI was still in the Renaissance era. When I was on mars. I was making 500+ science per turn, they were making 40. But this can be fixed quite easily, just play on a higher difficulty. What can't be fixed, is diplomacy:

Leader Agendas:
This is one of my least favorite things about Civ 6 in general. Leader Agendas are how the AI thinks of other players. I'll give an example: Gorgo, of the Greeks, has a leader agenda where she dislikes Civilizations that have never been to war. However, if you declare war on someone, she calls you a warmongerer. She either denounces you for not decaring war on people, or denounces you and calls you a warmongerer. k. Another example is Brazil. They dislike civilizations who recruit great people. They will literally denounce you (tell the entire world that you can't be trusted) if you recruit too many great people. Leader Agendas makes it so that you can't be friendly with the AI, no matter how hard you try, there are always conflicting Leader Agendas, or ones that are impossible (Norway will hate you if you don't have a navy, even if you are completely land-locked). Not only that, but Leader Agendas should dissipate upon entering later eras. Imagine if today, Japan hated America because our people aren't faithful enough. They wouldn't trade with us, and would tell the entire world that we can't be trusted, because we don't have enough faith in religion.

Warmongering:
In Civ 5, I thought the AI's reaction to war was extreme. I was wrong. In Civ 6, one war and the AI hates you for the rest of the game. Literally. Even if another player declares war on you, and you take over ONE city, You lose 35 relationship points with the ENTIRE WORLD. In comparison, being an ALLY with a civ increases your relationship points by 16. Taking 1 city from a civ that DECLARED WAR ON YOU makes you lose all diplomatic relations with the entire world. After the AI denounces you constantly, calling you a warmongerer, they will declare war on you themselves. (hypocritical, much?) Not only that, but there are some civs that will NEVER make peace with you, no matter what happens. Even if they lose cities, they will not make peace. It doesn't make sense. Finally, the AI does not realize when it has a disadvantage in war. I have been declared war on by civs that are 4 eras behind me. They attack me with Archers when I have Cavalry and musket men, and their entire military is destroyed in 1 turn.

Glitches:
If the diplomacy isn't bad enough as it is, there are some glitches that make it even worse. Sometimes, the turn you meet a civ, they will declare a formal war on you (to declare a formal war, you must have denounced a civ 5 turns ago...meaning you must have met them for 5 turns). In the first game I played, the turn I met Ghandi he declared war on me, and didnt make peace for 215 turns (the game ended, and he was still at war with me). Also, I have had it happen to me twice where MY LEADER DECLARES WAR ON ME? I was playing as Gorgo, and I see a cutscene where Gorgo declares war on me. (That was when Ghandi declared war on me as well).

Overall:
I dont think this is a bad game, but it gets boring REALLY quick when there is no positive interactions with other AI. If you don't care about diplomacy at all and you only want to conquer the entire world, then pick this game up when it's on sale. Otherwise, if you care about how the other AI interacts with you, I'd wait until this game goes very cheap on sale, or just don't buy it at all.

This game is most likely the worst game I have ever played in my life. For the first few hours this game is awesome, you drive around in cars, you fight against people your level with guns your level, and its an amazing game.

Then comes level 3. After level 3 the matchmaking turns to complete crap, matching you against either p2w f***, or just people who have played longer. If you're still using the default gun you will constantly be getting killed. Your gun takes 2-3 hits to kill an enemy while most guns either one shot or kill you so fast you think its a one shot, then you get sent back to spawn, spend 10-30 seconds deploying, drive/walk back, get one shotted, repeat. Doesn't that sound like fun!!!??? And if you're not getting killed by better players, you're matched up against tanks, which are 10 times worse. They camp across the map, and shoot shells that hit your general vicinity to kill you. If you're in a jeep or convoy car, all of you will instantly be killed. The player in the tank is invincible to bullets, and the only way to kill them is with anti-tank weapons, which are expensive and are also hard to get. But, the game has to have tanks. You cant have a WWII war game without tanks, the problem is that you only need to be level 3 to be a tank driver, meaning that every game will have up to 10 tanks camping across the map destroying any infantry. In assault its a little better becuase there are planes that counter them, but what the game should really do is remove tanks from skirmish modes, where they are safe from their #1 enemy (fighter pilots cant play skirmish)

Let's move on to the economy. Every time you use a grenade in the battle you have to pay for it. You also have to pay for your gun ammo, vehicle repair costs, and gun maintenance. Now, usually its not very much, but once you try to upgrade your weapons you start gaining very little credits per game. Any half decent gun costs $50,000+ credits, meaning that you have to play constantly to get these weapons. The game probably gets better once you get the better weapons, but I have 65 hours into the game and still have trash weapons. I'm not putting myself through the torture of playing more so I can get better weapons.

[EDIT 1]: Oops! Silly me, I forgot about one of the most important things! You might be thinking "Okay, this game is in Beta, it still has potential, right?" Well, this latest update made me think wrong. The Soviet Union was added as a faction (team) to the game. Now, first of all, for the majority of the war the U.S. and the Soviet Union were allies, although tensions were still high, but they wouldn't attack each other, but who cares about that. I dont. What I do care about is the fact that they made the Soviet Union a frickin' powerhouse, their infantry weapons are far superior; especially the PPD-40. The PPD is a 71 round mag smg. Compared to the M3 Grease gun and the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ MP34, its totally op. The next smg you get is the PPsH. Once again, 71 round mag, upgradable to 900 rpm (rounds per minute). 71 shots at 900 rpm = op.

[EDIT 2]: As you can see, my hours have raised since I wrote this review. Now, this is not because I'm a hypocrite, its becuase my little brother hasn't realized that this game is not a good game, and everyday forces me to play with him. Once he realizes, just like me, that this is not a good game, I will have no reason to play it.

[EDIT 3]: Let's also talk about AT (Anti-Tank). Tanks in this game are completely unbalanced, especially in skirmish, but at least the developers were kind enough to give us infantry a way to kill tanks. Mines, sticky grendes, and rocket launchers. For grenades and mines, you have to be right up near the tank, which is impossible to do if they are camping or have infantry guarding them. Rocket launchers are a little bit better, but they take up so much inventory space you can only cary a SA-rifle or a BA-rifle, and you can barely sprint. The other thing is that the game doesn't want people destroying tanks, so they make the AT weapons so overpriced they are literally unusable. Sticky grenades are the best example. It takes 3 sticky grenades to destroy a tank. The cost of using 3 sticky grenades is 1100 credits. (average salary per game = 3000-5000 credits). You are paying a large chunk of your salary to destroy one tank, and the tank driver has to pay maybe 100-500.

[EDIT 4]: One other thing. The game's matchmaking sometimes decides to match you in a game that is already almost over, meaning you will automatically be paid 0 credits. If you are like me and your gun is very expensive to maintain, you are losing alot of money by playing.
