I've played this game for almost 60 hours since launch, and while there are issues here and there, this is by far one of the most enjoyable grand strategy sandbox games out there. I've played a fair bit of Paradox games in the past, and they're all good on one hand, and fall short on the other, and I believe Europa Universalis 5 tries to fill in those gaps by having the best of everything. There's something for everyone here. I feel really immersed and starting to understand most of the concepts in the game, and while this might be due to the fact that the game is new, I don't feel the pressure of meta strats trying to lure me in like venom.

While I hate "meta strats", I used to be one myself (EU4, HOI4, etc), and this naturally made me a very result based person. Since the game is new, and extremely complex, I thought I might as well take my time and learn from the ground up, and try to understand the mechanics early until I feel comfortable enough to just play on the go. I'll have to warn new people, that the game is really difficult to grasp. There are so many things going on all at the same time, and while the UI is complicated, it's not impossible to understand (Paradox, please make it easier to see maritime stats). Once you get used to it, which might take longer than you'd anticipate, the game is really rewarding. So far, I'm enjoying my run as the Ottomans, and taking my time to learn the game.

One thing I really dislike however, is the historical accuracy. Now I know this is an alternative history setting, but not being able to go against the Timurids, or see the fall of the Golden Horde, is I think unfortunate. This can just be fixed with a few DLC's, like Paradox loves to do, so I'm not too fussed about it. I'd love to see more scripted historical events that challenge players in different aspects, such as military, economy, etc.

To sum it up, this is a sandbox masterpiece, with a lot of potential, but rough ends. It's a really good launch, I believe Paradox will take the right steps to enhance the quality and performance of the game. I can definitely see myself playing this game more in the future, and I can safely recommend it to other people.

if sanity is a disposable asset for you, do not hesitate to sell your soul for an extra golden eagle or two

You want your precious time to be taken? You want to see your entire life to get eaten away by a game? You like it hardcore like sex? Well, I can't prove it to you but this game is the kink of all grand strategy games. Includes of many aspects that many games lack. From little strategies that will affect your wars, to little mistakes that will make you rage quit and make you buy another monitor. A solid game, and you can even buy the steam key from cdkeys.com for around £2-4 and it's really solid for the normal market price. For those that are new to the game, if you're coming from CK2 this game will take about 1-2 hours for you to learn, it's real simple compared to CK2. If you're coming from HOI4, just like me, it'll take about 66 hours for you to learn the game fully. If you're coming over from total war, don't even start, seriously. Go play something else bro, this game ain't for you. There are several bugs that you won't even be seeing, because maintenance is something Paradox loves. You can download great mods from the Workshop and have fun for the rest of your life.
Overall, really solid game, it's kept up to date, and lots of mods.
9.5/10 because not a single game will be 10

As a player who started playing Age of Empires 3, this game is quite easy to learn. The graphics make the game fun and exquisite to its genre. The era itself is interesting, and the game composes this in a way that even a new-comer would love to play. There are some down sides of the game from the original game, however it doesn't stop the player playing the game.
8/10
Worth the £14.99 price-tag, even better if it's on the deal, which I bought it for £3.75
