Plays like a cross between Jane's Fleet Command, FTL, and Lunar Lander. Among other things, you can:
- Convince the locals to fight for your cause through flattery (and, failing that, bribery and threats)
- Pilot a 40000 ton airborne battleship
- Turn on your radar and immediately take a dozen missiles to the face for your trouble
- Find a shipyard and customize your fleet
- Pretend you're Alan Turing and cryptanalyze incoming radio transmissions
- Engage in commerce raiding for fun and profit
- GLOBAL THERMONUCLEAR WAR (CAUTION: may result in mutually-assured destruction)

The story and setting feel bit like Dune, also. Highly recommend it.

I'd initially tried this when it came out, and had no luck getting it to work. I recently bought it to try it again, with much upgraded hardware and on Linux instead of windows 7, and I'm happy to report that it runs decently now. The story and characters are great, the graphics are amazing, and the gameplay is pretty fun (although, you should still temper your expectations - some of the original complaints about the wanted system, shallowness of street NPC interactions and the lack of vehicle combat still apply).

Overall I would recommend it.

A fun game about dismantling old spaceships that comes with interesting and topical commentary on labor relations. Has a space-western kind of feel to it. As it is a pretty early release, it only comes with two different ship classes (really three, if you count the cargo and transport variants of the Gecko as separate), but there's a randomization system that switches things up and adds considerable variety. It's also a little rough around the edges - there's a UI scaling bug that makes the HUD of your spacesuit unusable at resolutions other than 1080p, and occasionally it will crash to desktop without warning. Overall, highly recommend checking it out, and keeping an eye on it as it gets updates and new content.

Pros: Fun car combat, fantastic visual design, extremely well-optimized (loads instantly, doesn't strain my system even with all graphics options maxed out). Nails the general feel of Mad Max, lots of callbacks to the original movies as well as fury road.

Cons: The main plot is MEDIOCRE. Some of the activites you have to do to clear regions and unlock parts for the car get repetitive after a while.

Overall: Pretty good game. Maybe wait for the price to come down a bit / see if it goes on sale over the holidays.
