After loving WOS Circle line I expected this to be a modern take on that with the London Underground scenarios. Unfortunately, the feeling of the line is disappointing to say the least and doesn't feel very authentic. The train and stations, though modelled beautifully, could be mistaken for any other area with the poor AI and distinct lack of common Underground nuances.
This includes the lack of announcements!?! I don't understand how you can expect to simulate the Underground without the distinctive station announcements on the train, or with the Mind the Gap! announcer on platform. Even the years old WoS had that!

Overall i'm quite disappointed with the game.

This is an account of events in DayZ since its original release date until January 2015.

I had high hopes for this game as it was the much anticipated sequal to the Arma 2 mod. I was informed of the Arma mod many times by friends but was never very optimistic as the concept seemed silly to me, but after months of refusing to purchase Arma I noticed that standalone was being released, so naturally I informed my friends who had originally recommended the mod to me. They proceeded to purchase the game and managed to persuade me to do so also.

At first glance DayZ seemed just like what I imagined, a boring survival game where there was few players to interact with as the map seemed so large. But after a few days I started to get the hang of it, with my friends inept knowlege of the map (which they claimed to know like our own town...) we proceeded to wander around the world of Chernarus, albeit taking rather strange routes, until we found the then capital of PVP; Electro. This was where DayZ started to make a profound impression on me as it showed that this game was not all about running around for hours with an FNX pistol looking for players to befriend and ultimately backstab, it showed that this game required a high level of concentration and tactical knowlege to successfully master the art of DayZ survival. So, many days where spent hunting down players within Electro, and also many days spent looking for gear after our inevitable deaths, this was also a key factor in the game as when you respawned it wasn't as simple as collecting some more loot from a nearby house, it actually took time to get geared back up and by that time the people who had killed you were most likely gone forever. Camping around Electro were definately some of the best times I have had in DayZ, spending hours on end in one house killing everyone who opened the door, collecting their gear then moving onto another house, only to do the same again, until eventually we became friendly and spoke to everyone who we met, until one day we met a group of people who later joined up with us and we formed into a group of players. I believe at one point we were the 80th best DayZ SA clan, that however had nothing to do with the review.

This magical experience of meeting new players and forming alliances is definately the best feature of DayZ, making the most unlikely friendships in the most unlikely ways is what makes this game great. However, the game then started to have some major problems in the development, every new release would fix one problem but create another three; zombies were incredibly fast and impossible to kill at one point I seem to remember. This was a real turning point as I started to see just how broken this game is, not at all helped by the then lead developer Dean Hall who was more concerned about climbing mountains that supporting his own games development, this coupled with the price increase makes me wonder why I played this game. Some times were good but most times were frought with arguements due to bugs in the game, stupid deaths or broken legs when you fell 1 foot from a staircase, not to mention the immense amount of hackers that glitch around somehow killing everybody on the server and sometimes taking the entire server down.

So, to conclude, I would definately reccommend DayZ to the individual who can put up with huge bugs and flaws in the game which lead to confusion and frustration, and sometimes downright unplayability, the person who can look past this and enjoy DayZ as I once did will have great pleasure from playing this and will most likely recommend the game to others, like myself. To others though, this game is far from complete, the departure of Dean Hall has definately improved the rate of progress but the game is still very badly made, it is unplayable on all but the best PCs and even then requires significant tweaking to increase FPS and decrease DeSync. But please don't take this the wrong way, DayZ when if fully released is sure to be one of the best survival games on the market, so if it is not your idea of a good game now, please do check towards the end of this year when it is due to be released, but be warned that this may come at an increaed price.

Thanks
~Sam
