My main account has been around since March 14th, 2018. And I’ve watched this game grow for the early years, and my early teens were spent growing up with Rec Room. I still hang out with two of my oldest friends from this game to this day playing so much more than Rec. But eventually I started seeing problems in Rec as time went on, I was encountering a growing toxic player base, kids screaming slurs, grown adults doing the same and harassing people who are just chilling and being themselves. And eventually early 2023 I took a who knows how long break from the game. At first I thought it was only burnout and I didn’t see how things would continue to break apart until I picked the game back up in September 2024, then I finally saw all the cracks in everything and I had eventually quit the game for what is possibly for good in January 2025 because of how everything changed.

What got me to leave?
• The player base had gotten worse, screen mode lobbies showing the worst offenders.
• Voice chat banning as an addition made it impossible to socialize as myself. One small slip up and I was voice chat banned for an hour for “inappropriate sexual content or behavior” with no clue how it’s picking up anything as such.
• Rec Room Studio while looking promising at first has made it impossible to try and find something good to play because of all the cash grab rooms that are nothing but attempts to get easy money from kids wanting benefits that ruin the “game” they made
• No sign of any listening from the devs. They used to be super involved with their community and now they hide in the back. Making ♥♥♥♥♥♥ choices that they say will be what we want when it isn’t, making false promises like Circuits V1 being promised to be fixed so old rooms wouldn’t break and never doing so, ect.
• It being basically impossible to get tokens without paying for them in some sort of way. I had Rec Room+ and sometimes that wasn’t even enough. I hate to admit it but for a couple years I had spent a lot of money on this game. And now it’s even more of a trap then it already was for me at that time.

All these issues and maybe more that I’m blanking on atm have pushed me away more than ever. This is a game I wanted to see flourish, I wanted this to be a game I could come back too, and now it’s a game I’d never recommend unless we got MASSIVE change. That I’ve been very doubtful we’ll get. We NEED Rec Room to listen to it’s community again, give us what we really want! WE DON’T WANT a maker ai that isn’t even what you showed it off to be. WE DON’T WANT the Rec Room Studio Originals that have no replayability. WE WANT Circuits V1 fixed, WE WANT more maps for Laser Tag, for Paintball, WE WANT a new quest, WE WANT weekly’s!! Yet all these wants were left in the dust. Because all that’s cared about is making a profit. When the original vision was to listen to us, the games community, accept criticism, acknowledge wrong doings. Yet here we are some years later, that vision is gone. So too is most of the player base, the RecTubers, the original staff, the love of this game.

One last punch in the gut that’s a bit more personal but can really shed more light on how much this fall of Rec Room sucks. I grew up playing this, and I have this game to thank for helping shape me into the person I am today. I have this game to thank for showing me I can be myself and find people who have the same energy and vibes as me. It showed me I wasn’t as alone as I once thought I was. I have many stories of playing this game, I have many stories I wanted to make with this game with my own rooms, and I wanted to have so much more stories about returning.
The only story I have now for Rec Room..
Is my disappointment, my frustration, my past experiences with a new sour taste to them.

Rec Room dev team or anyone in there if you see this. Please, listen to us again. Make the change that will not only benefit you, but benefit us, and everyone that wanted to honor the original games slogan. Please give it your Rec Room best.

This review will be a little biased and I'll say that right out the gate.

But this review is a recommendation considering one of the hardest things I could see for getting into this game being if you want to catch up, you have to spend a pretty penny. But right now this sale could be a huge step for people.

Getting into the game itself. It is a very fun experience. The feelings of power you gain when casting your super in the right time at the right spot is amazing. The story while definitely can be a bit better in spots is still very fun. There is some grinding you'll have to do sometimes but the end result is worth it if you want to spend more time with this game.
The amount of hours I have doesn't count my hours on PlayStation which would most likely skyrocket the numbers decently.
I can't ever not love this game for the fun times it brought to my life. And even if there are issues, I want to see them improved because the concepts and gameplay is so entertaining.

But at the end of the day. This game changed my life and I just have to recommend it to people while they have the chance.

This game is amazing! I'd give it a 12/10. Just astounding!
