First off I’m going to say this game is amazing, if you want to know if it’s worth it, absolutely yes! If a cute, fun, solid 3D platformer is what you’re looking for this is the game for you! Now on with the review!

I'll start with the pros and cons. Cons first, so let’s get these bad boys out of the way.

Cons
- The length
- Visual glitches
- The lack of voice acting near endgame

The worst thing about this game would be its length... Well if you do the bare minimum; which is getting 25 time pieces and not going out of your way to grab collectables. In which the game is about 10-15 hours. If you however, collect everything, the game is much longer and more enjoyable in my opinion. This also negates the length problem; however even after finishing everything I could, I was still left craving more.

This game is definitely beautiful, but one thing that happened a decent bit were visual glitches, mainly shadows on some characters being off and clipping on models, a lot of clipping. An example is a cut scene after the first boss. Where hat girl closes her eyes and shakes her head, her eyes clip through. Though that only happens in that cut scene. Distracting but that's about it.

Another thing that is merely distracting is the lack of voice acting near the end of the game. Some characters were voiced while some were not. Note that these same characters were fully voiced earlier in game. That’s the reason why this is distracting, IS because it is fully voice acted other than those handful of lines.

Pros
- The visuals
- The camera
-The voice acting
-How hat kid controls
-The Characters

To start right off the bat you’ll notice this game looks good, but not really detailed, most textures are relatively simple. However what makes this game’s visuals mostly simple but down right gorgeous, are the visual effects. From sand and snow sparkling, to partials and butterflies in the air. The wind blowing, dust and fog hanging just above the ground, and ambers floating in the air around fire and lava. And probably more that I’m missing. That alone makes this game so beautiful to look at; really it’s just a treat for your eyes.

They defiantly took a lot care with the camera; it feels like an extension of yourself. It never got in my way, nor did I have to fight it. To the point that hardly noticed it. The only two problems I had with it. Were that sometimes I couldn’t make a sharp turn fast enough; likely do to my settings. And that you can clip the camera through a lot of thing ever so slightly.

I’ve got to say the voice acting is wonderful, some of the best I’ve heard! Not much to say, the character’s voices are distinct, and fit perfectly with each character. Lastly the lines were read with so much character and emotion.

Hat kid controls beautifully, every move can flow into each other. You’re given so much control over how you move. Not to mention how fast you can move, do to being able to have each move go from one to the next. I don’t think I’ve ever played a platformer that allows for such movement. To go from one side of an area to the next with lighting fast speed and simple but accurate controls; well one just has to feel for themselves, to truly appreciate it.

Last but not least the characters, oh the characters. Every character has an distinct and quirky personality. They also play off one another beautifully. From two characters fighting for a trophy, by all means possible, do to believing the other will cheat to win. To one that your obligated to do, let’s say “chores” for. And not to spoil anything ends up in a disagreement that goes back and forth in a humorous way. I’ll leave the rest for you to see for yourself.

And that’s A Hat in Time. A must play if you ask me, so what are you waiting for, pick it up and play it already!

I bought this game regardless of the negative things I heard about it; because I felt it had potential. And in the beginning it did, but quickly turned into a tedious repetitive mess. You end up visting almost every area three times, battling a new horde of enemies each time. Because of this it takes forever to progess what little story there is.
And lastly the game punishes you for unlocking every ability in the game by locking you out of the good ending.

Overall I'd say it's not worth buying.
