There are several types of XCOM players: The Purist, who plays only the base-game, no mods, uses pre-generated characters, letting the RNG make an amazing story with the soldiers who may have risen to make a name for themselves.

Then there are players like me, who install just enough mods before breaking the game, spend 70% of the game in character creation, creating stories involving Deadpool, Commander Shepherd, Wonder Woman, several members of Westeros, a K-POP group, Blackpink, and others, amidst an alien occupation.
