I've bought this game for at least 3 of my friends. It's sometimes insanely frustrating. It's also almost always an insane amount of fun. It will sometimes make you feel like a clown. But then there's those moments where you and your buddy dive off a ledge, each wielding an explosive breaching hammer, into a crowd of a dozen 10-foot-tall evil automatons, and in a fight with the same tier of choreography as a movie brawl, you devastate and destroy them all. Then you turn, offer a handshake, and your buddy accepts it, and you know that you'd have made your favorite action hero proud.

Honestly, why doesn't every game have interactive emotes? It's been my main complain about most other games since I started this one.

I bought this game around release when it was on a Steam sale for like $20. It was a pretty good $20 game, but nowhere near worth $60.

Now here we are 10 years later. The devs have been adding stuff nonstop for all of that time. It is worth $60. It's got minimal combat focus, the basebuilding can be a little buggy, but man... Nothing like falling through the stars in an infinite universe.

This game is interesting. It's a TON of fun - having 16 players run around, fighting off an INTENSE amount of bugs is really wild! It's a blast! The classes are really well done, the upgrades and unlocks run a good balance between making leveled players better but not making new players irrelevant, and the level ups come at a reasonable pace.

HOWEVER. The in-game community and social systems..... Well, in practice, there are none. You can't add someone to a party, you can't add people as friends - none of those systems work right now. You can join a Company (a guild/group), but then.... You can't join on other members in the company. You can join people via the Steam Overlay, but this means that you have absolutely no way to coordinate or game with anyone on Xbox or Playstation - you'll see Xbox and Playstation players running around in your game, but you can't add them as friends or play with them again.

For a game focusing on co-op, community, and larger scale multiplayer, this is a really critical issue.

IF the devs get this fixed, this game will be a 10/10, it'll be an example for the large-scale cooperative gameplay I wish EVERY game had. But in it's current state, this is a core aspect that appears to be... Well..... Really, wildly broken.

I'll be frank. I saw this and thought "L4D in the Control universe? Hell yea!" Control is easily my favorite store-based game in the last decade.

This game... Does not play like L4D, nor Control. It plays a little more like Visceral Cleanup Detail with poor direction. I spent 40 minutes filling barrels and doing furnace maintenance. I spent another 30 with a broom sweeping up post-it notes. And then another 30 trying to get rid of some pests in the basement. Even when I was shooting and being shot at, it felt tedium, until a horde of 40+ enemies spawned and then I felt helpless, until I realized I could cheese it with the water gun.

The interact and fix-it mechanics are cool. I like the ideas for the classes (though the water one seems to be leagues above the others). I just... Can't help but feel that whatever it is they were going for here, they missed the mark. I played for 2 hours and felt like I was doing chores but getting nothing done. I quite two zones into the third mission.

EDIT: Alright.... I've put another 6 hours into this game. I've had a few realizations:

First off, it's more fun once you realize what it's asking of you. The new player introduction is harsh, there's goals and objectives given but how you make those happen is sorta missing. Once you've played through a mission once, it's a lot more fun. The first time is the worst.

This, however, highlights the bigger issue: *There is no content.* I did 2 and a half missions at Clearance 3, thinking that this was the lowest tier. It was not, it was the longest tier. So.... I have now done all 5 missions (total!) avaialbe in-game. I have done them at the longest setting, and done them on the Hard difficulty. I have most all of the equipment unlocked. I am only 8 hours into the game total.

My review still has to say "Do not recommend". The game needs at least 2x the number of separate missions, and then each of these missions has to be like twice as long before I can recommend this. Again, great concept, great setting... But the execution is still lacking.

ALSO: There's no chat of any type. No text, no voice. I've watched so many people run past the water foundations, their health bar so low it doesn't render, and I can't tell them what to do with the stupid water fountain, the ping doesn't highlight it... The new player experience is made worse by lack of ANY type of communication in game.

Edit: (4/15/26): New update. Game is unplayable again. Holy hell.

Edit (12/10/25): As of a month ago or so, it looks like the game has finally updated to be playable again. I'm honestly not sure how to modify my review. This game is an intense amount of fun, it's really amazing, but then it also was so broken that it couldn't even launch for well over a year.

Edit (12/27/24): First off, thanks to the devs for taking the time to respond. As a big Warhammer fan, the game shows their dedication to the universe, and you love to see that.

That being said: The fixes did not fix anything. I've reinstalled the game a few times, verified game files, and spent hours on google looking for fixes. Mostly what I've found is "Yea, it just does that for some people." So I still cannot make it to the title screen of this game without it crashing. Still unplayable.

Original review: Game is a ton of fun - when it works. When does it work? Almost never. Of my first 8 hours of the game, 6 were troubleshooting. Got it working unreliably - frequent crashes and freezes. Then they pushed out an update - and from then on, I couldn't get past the title screen.

Now with this Obelisk update, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the entire game - now I cannot get to the title screen. It's not a PC issue - using a 3060 and 32 GB of RAM on a SSD, I can run most anything I try, but this thing can't even get to the title screen, let alone the main menu, let alone the game itself.

If they fix the thing, it'll be amazing - as a lover of 3rd person coop shooters, it'd be a 10/10. But you can't actually play the damned game.

Probably one of my favorite single players, story based experiences I've played through in a decade. The powers you obtain over time flow smoothly and control naturally, the setting is incredibly ominous and strange. Top tier, absolutely love it.

Best VR game I've seen to date. It was running a little funky, before I realized that two of my Oculus sensors weren't working at the moment. This game is a better VR game on 1 bugged sensor than most other games when running on three. That's a damned good game.

And there's a lot of content - 6 hours in, and I don't know where I'm at in the game, but I know for certain most other VR story games would have ended by now. I believe I still have a ways to go.

Got into this game not expecting much. The theme is very cool, and the atmosphere looks good, but we all know how early access works. Luckily, I was pleasantly surprised.

Not only is the atmosphere great and the theme awesome, but the mechanics are solid. I've had very little trouble with combat, with movement, or other things. It's like everything that Day Z should have been, but completely failed on. I can walk across a map, search a town, fight an enemy, or explore a hilltop without randomly dying to some complete bs - which really shows how low the bar has been set for some survival or exploration games, and then goes to show how badly some of them have failed it.

If this game had something like setting up a camp or base, I'd be all the more for it, but I don't think that's something the devs are shooting for - and that's okay, it's still a great game without it. The bikes are wonky, but they're also completely unnecessary to traverse the map, so they end up as a goofy thing to play with rather than rely on, and I see nothing wrong with that.

I've only explored the map, and only the southwest portion, looking for bunkers, safehouses, and other interesting locations. I'm sure as I continue across the rest of the islands, I'll be just as impressed by the devs as I am now. Good work, boys.

I meant to go to bed at 10 last night.

Instead, at 11:30 I was huddled in a corner, shouting frantically and screaming in panic with three other guys as more than half a dozen zombies taunted us over the open mic as they flung themselves towards our tasty, fleshy bits.

Plus, the other game modes are absolutely fun as hell, and at 12 hours in, I haven't even seen all the maps yet.

10/10, can't wait to do it again.

Performs reliably and steadily as most full released games. Haven't had any issues game-wise. Even has given me very little lag trouble, even through a sometimes spotty internet connection.

As far as gameplay goes, still waiting on a few classes from KF1, like the sharpshooter, but so far every class they've added had been superbly designed or redesigned. Can't wait for more weapons and more depth to be added. Better than the original, 10/10.

(I hear there's a loot crate style system implemented. I pretend it doesn't exist. Nice.)
