hero shooters are not intrinsically problematic theyre merely design frameworks. where the issue with the oversaturation of this genre may arise is how much of it is just capitalizing off the success of other titles in the same space. thats not a problem with the genre itself but rather a problem with how games are made and how they get popular. its like blaming turn based mechanics as the fundamental flaw in slow rpg games. it ignores the actual issues present at hand. i think the fundamental flaw of most hero shooters is the very way its balanced and how dev teams approach how to keep the games fresh. in overwatch for example, it started great. yeah there were some balancing issues, but it was fresh. when they started adding more and more characters, thats when issues came up. balancing would be even more wack, there would be band aid patches on top of band aid patches as well as spaghetti code to fix these issues. these very class systems solve problems, but also make more.
