Simulataneously really engaging and supremely relaxing.

I liked this game. I thought it was good. I learned some JS.

I felt like I was getting pretty good at the game.

At some point, I noticed one of the achievements was "Modify Your Save File".

I did that, but I didn't get the achievement.

But I did learn how to modify my save file. Suddenly, everything felt so slow and tedious. I knew what I needed to do to beat the nodes, but the game was just not respectful of my time.

Now, I have an easy victory at hand, and I can do it quickly, but it doesn't feel satisfying. And doing it without modifying the save file -- a thing the game encourages -- feels slow and pointless.

I don't know -- maybe you will feel some kind of satisfaction from leaving the game running multiple days, just to farm enough [insert Bitnode-relevant resource here]. I did for a while, but as soon as the bell was rung I couldn't unring it, and now it doesn't feel worth the wait.

Absolutely worth $3.74 -- seriously, what else are you gonna do with that change your found under the couch cushion?

The game is decent. I enjoy it.

The community is, by and large, non-toxic, if only because nobody uses chat.

But the ones that do are toxic salt-lord teens.

Or they think their ♥♥♥♥♥♥ rap music -- blasting, with all the quality of what you'd expect from a pair of those free earbuds you get on an airplane -- is what everyone needs to listen to for the whole match.

Fun when it works, but it's buggy and unreliable.

Want to play multiplayer? Too bad! It doesn't work -- it gives you a message about needing to enable crossplay. Nevermind that both you and your friend are playing on Steam AND have crossplay enabled. Why can't you join each other? Nobody knows!

Have an ultrawide monitor? Oh, that sucks, because this game doesn't support it. You can edit the registry to get the gameplay area to look right, but for whatever reason that means the UI is ridiculously oversized.

This game is cheap, but I wouldn't recommend it in its current state.

This game is surprisingly phenomenal.

It takes -- at most -- 30 minutes for a round, and yet I've played more than 85 hours as of this review.

It's that perfect sweet spot of slow drip new things to master and the barely stepping out of of your comfort zone so that you constantly feel both exhilarated and challenged but also like a total badass.

The developer keeps adding content, too.

Early Access Review
My kid really likes playing this game.

Of course, he's young, so he likes to play against bots, where he can win.

We got this pretty early on in the Early Access rollout, and there were some changes to the business model; multiplayer is still there, but solo against bots was moved to a DLC tier. When the dev heard how disappointed my son was he took care of us.

Early Access Review
Despite being in early access this game feels remarkably complete. There are still places that are obviously unfinished, but the core mechanics exist with few -- if any -- bugs.

As a game to play with friends, this scratches the collective itches of constructing bases, exploring the world, and fighting monsters.

I can't believe I didn't play it sooner.

Clever, innovative, visually gorgeous and mentally satisfying.

That was pleasant as all get-out.

Great music, great scenery (one of those games with crappy pixel art that still leaves you feeling like you've seen a new part of the world), a happy, friendly, awesome little interaction with this tiny vacation island.

Takes like 60 minutes to beat it the first time, around 5 hours to 100% it. Leaves you with a satisfied glow, like if your grandma called you up just to tell you that she's been thinking about you and she's proud of you.

This game is great.
