I give this game a 'Not recommended' not because it is a bad game. It's not, it's... fine. I do it partly to balance the misleading "Overwhelmingly positive" reviews, and to give would-be buyers some context, some counterpoint.

There are things to like about the game. The voice-acting is stellar, the story is interesting-ish. The problem is the game involves so much tedious shlepping back-and-forth, running between locations, between the sources for ore and your base to process them. You delve a little deeper to get more resources so you can sell them and purchase minor upgrades so you can go a little deeper and get more resources to bring back to your base. All for what? So they can feed you another tiny morsel of the needlessly drawn-out story?

It just feels too much like work...

Edit: the developer is apparently butt-hurt that someone dares mar his nearly perfect score. To clarify, I *don't* actually recommend, this isn't my just trying to balance it out. Typically, I wouldn't have bothered reviewing such a game at all, but I felt in this case, other people should know what it is they're getting. A world of tedium.

Early Access Review
Sometimes you just know a game is going to be good.

Star Rupture breathes some fresh life into the factory/automation genre. It balances well the combination of building your factory base, exploration and combat, each requiring input from the other. When you start to tire of managing your base, go explore! And vice versa.

It's not perfect, it is early access after all. The combat could use some tweakage, there's a lack of enemy and weapon variety. For most of the game, the combat is far too easy, until quite suddenly it's not. There's far too much dull schlepping back-and-forth across the long distances between your bases, though the addition of the zip lines improves that remarkably.

But all the SR's problems strike me as *solvable* problems, ones we can hope the devs will address as the flesh out the game. There's already a remarkable amount of content, a huge map to explore, for a game that's only one update into its Early Access, with other areas clearly already designed, just inaccessible for now.

Lots to expect from this one.

Once the novelty wears off, it kind of feels like you just... do things. Am I playing a game or engaging in busy work?

This is definitely one of those "Is it worth two bucks? Yes, it is definitely worth two bucks." games.

I don't understand the appeal of this game. Just endless fetch quests. Running back and forth between villages, which are no trifling distance apart.

Quickly feels more like work than a game.

Banished lite + Age of Empires lite = sounds good in theory, but in practice is a game lacking compelling mechanics. Plus the voice acting is rough.

A JRPG MMO that plays like WoW crossed with Diablo?! I can understand why that might draw many people in. But unless you are willing to sacrifice your entire life to this endless, mind-numbing, repetitive grindfest, stay away.

Let's be to the point: you purchase this game to play with your significant other. And while it's not overly challenging for even moderately experienced gamers, you will have fun with him or her. The story is good enough to keep you going. The battle mechanics require cooperation and coordination, but the open-world coop mechanics could be better. We found that were best off if we just let one person (generally the least-patient) 'drive'.

STAY AWAY

This game was great. Intriguing, deeply tactical gameplay. But the devs have absolutely ruined this former hidden gem. To say they don't listen to their community would be an understatement; they have made it clear they actively despise and ignore us. Patch after patch, they introduce unfun, unabalanced mechanics that suck the enjoyment out of the game. The community has made it clear they don't want these new features, but Wargaming insists that we will eat their ♥♥♥♥ and like it, too.

I have never participated in an online community where the developers are so utterly deaf to and out-of-touch from their own playerbase. I am increasingly convinced that they don't even play their own game, nothing else could explain the decisions they've made.

Also, I'm pretty sure a bunch of the positive review for this game are nothing but bots.
