With this DLC and the update to the overall game that came along with it, they have ruined the core Risk of Rain 2 experience in every way possible. The game simply will not play or feel the same as it was prior to this update whether you own the DLC or not. The Gearbox team is currently trying to fix these issues they caused, but there is little hope that the game goes back to its previous state as so many things were fundamentally and purposefully (also unpurposefully) changed.

The only option to have Risk of Rain 2 back is by downpatching the game and returning it to a previous version, which is a somewhat complicated process as of now. A positive aspect of the DLC is the art for it, the artists did a great job on the environments and designs, and that's about it for the good portion of this expansion. I really hope that I can go back on this review in the future and change it to a positive one, but as it stands now it is a really bad situation for the overall game.

Though even if all the issues are magically fixed, some of the content was so poorly thought out that to have a decent experience with this DLC enabled you'd have to blacklist majority of the new items with a mod, as most of them add nothing to the game and actively take away from it by unbalancing the loot pool.
And you'd also need a mod to entirely remove the two new Elite type monsters, or find another mod that hopefully would rework them to actually have any incentive to just not simply ignore their existence like you currently have to. As one of them steals your gold if you damage it when it has a shield, and doesn't even give back the stolen gold after killing it making the fight entirely pointless as you just waste time. The other Elite type simply punishes you by ending your run for dealing damage to other Elite enemies surrounding it, they spawn in a very late point of the game where you'd usually have so many AoE effects that it's completely impossible to deal damage to this singular target.

At this point just give me the new maps alongside the skins with the old version of the game and I would be happy.
