This is a positive review! I really enjoyed this game \o/

I understand why they ~had to advertise this game by comparing it to Disco Elysium but that's definitely where they lost a lot of people. As the "popular user-defined tags" show, there's no RPG or puzzle found there and I definitely agree. Whatever explanation for not elaborating on these mechanics I can understand (money, time, logistics), I just wish they still found a way to. My expectation when seeing the traits and the skill check mechanics was that I'd have to manipulate Eugene's emotions and traits through the dialogues and actions I can take part in, so he can get through the challenges required to finish intentions.

That being said! I very much enjoyed learning about the world and the history of the characters (on that sidenote, the voice acting was great all throughout EXCEPT for Frank, who should've been the best!), discovering all the places I can do and situations I can put Eugene in. The big emotional moments and the reveals hit for me every time. I saw people say the middle part where you go through the same loop just doing the same thing clicking on Continue, that was perfectly fine for me. Like that also hit for me, possibly because of my own depression. The sense of humour also amused me plenty and the game has a very strong sense of style too.

Reiterating that advertising the game by the promise of its weakest points being central mechanics was a mistake, and I understand where it falls short for many people BUT

tl;dr This was definitely a great gaming experience for me and I would bravely recommend it to anyone on the condition that they don't expect Disco Elysium. Or 12 minutes. Gonna miss Eugene, this depressed trainwreck of a man.

Harrowing depiction of what I personally call derealisation. I don't claim to have this experience specifically but so much of what this game conveys feels like the deepest point of my life so far lmao. Agreed with those who say it could be free but it's a piece of art still, if you can, support artists. It's dirt cheap by default, even dirter cheap on sale.

This was really cool, art style you don't see every day in games (it's not even necessarily one I enjoy but it's definitely refreshing to see, that's what grabbed my attention), fun scenarios and writing, atmospheric music, I really enjoyed it.

What a ride! I'm just sitting here freshly finished with the game and I'm already missing the characters and my heart aches for them. Sebastian's character was a masterclass in writing a complex character that I personally see myself in so deeply. Grief is a ♥♥♥♥ of a thing eh. Conceptually, aesthetically, this whole game was super compact and coherent, and even though I yearn for more I do understand much more of this game could've got too much. For this story, it was a perfect length.

As far as the puzzles go they made me feel super smart when I figured them out but they also might have just been easy, I have no way of telling (let's just say I'm super smart). I imagine it's a delicate balance to have puzzles that aren't too easy that they aren't satisfying when you solve them, but also not too hard that it gets frustrating if you don't get them right. Plus for them to not drag on too long that it halts the story for hours, that could just take away from the emotional pacing.

All things considered I think this is a perfect first game for a dev studio. If they stay with this detective mystery puzzle genre I can imagine them expanding on this concept for a more elaborate experience but for now this was a delight to play and I'll be recommending it to aNYONE WHO will listen (and to those who won't).

100% going to change my review once this issue is solved but for now Act 3 is the buggiest thing I've ever seen. events and characters don't trigger properly, achievements unlock when they shouldn't (I haven't 100%'d this game and yet I have the achievements for it? I also found all the fleas and opened all the fast travels but did not get the achievement for those? I couldn't access the VERY LAST section of the game several times because a character didn't go where he had to, then in another try I did the quests required of me (and the achievements unlocked even though I had done them several times before) but didn't get the quest items for them so I couldn't proceed.

Act 3 is a mess and I'm a little past the point of finding it funny. Otherwise great game but I cannot put my frustration aside.

Randomly stumbled upon this game from one of the many youtubers I watch and I'm surprised more didn't play it. I loved it at the time and I adore it possibly even more now that I played it for myself. It was still very effective. Short but sweet with what IS a simple story told in an interesting way. And I have to emphasise the sound design / music, I don't think I'd love this nearly as much as I do if the music wasn't so spot on.

I never thought I'd play and thoroughly enjoy a game like this before. What a ride. Other than some minor graphical issues and characters glitching on weird geometry (no I _can_ climb that rock, I just have to want it enough) I really can't think of a single thing I didn't adore about this game. I'm not even gonna try to make words go good cause just go and play it. Game itself easy top10 of all time, OST easy top3.

Fantastic game!!

Went into it knowing absolutely nothing, other than seeing some gameplay footage I noted was "not my kinda game" but then picked it up at random anyway. The only negatives I can bring up is some of the graphics issues, the pop-ins and the occasional glitch here and there, textures taking a bit to load from time to time but nothing distracting. One more thing, the fights could've been a bit more varied but since I'm not really a figthie girlie I was already playing on easy and the fight felt satisfying enough so I didn't mind it, it's just if I really have to find something to pick at.

The stories were great, all of them varied enough to keep it fresh, keep me thinking, the character designs were amazing, the voice acting even better, the world, the art direction, all of it. And the music just elevated it to as close as it can get to perfection. It was really the heart of the game. (My personal favourite was Laurent's story, it will be a long time before I stop thinking about it.)

The care with which deep south and indigenous folklore was treated and explored was great and as a white person I can't say how good or bad it was but I've only heard compliments from black people and I myself enjoyed exploring it loads.

A lot of the personal stories hit close to home too, as an added bonus.

Not entirely sure of how I feel about the ending. I don't necessarily mind that Bunny couldn't let go and ended up going with Roux but everything else about the game felt so grand, her walking out was a little underwhelming. I was secretly rooting for her to throw the brush away but thinking more about it I realise it would've been very theatrical and perhaps not fitting enough with many of the tragedies we'd explored throughout the game.
