Spelunky is a hard game to review because unless you're very familiar with the genre, it gives an extremely negative first impression because it's incredibly hard at first and might well seem impossible. That was in fact my own reaction to the game and I ended up setting it aside for months before coming back to it after seeing videos of it online.

The game is absolutely fantastic. It's hard, but you almost always fail because of something you did wrong not because of the game being unfair. It's a game that takes weeks to get good at and months & months to master (and even then), but it's very rewarding. The achievements on Steam are well designed as well and you'll get many just by progressing in the game and the last few take real skills and patience to get.

Absolutely recommended, but be patient. The first impression may not be all that good. It's now one my favorite games of all time.
