I had a lot of fun with Trifox. I was expecting something along the lines of Crash Bandicoot, but it's not really similar, as there's not a ton of platforming, and the gameplay relies heavily on mixing and matching offensive and defensive abilities to use during combat encounters. It's a perfect Steam Deck game. Can be beaten in about 5hrs, or a little longer if you're a completionist.

If you love metroidvanias and want to play something with a unique twist, this will fit the bill. The only downside is that the pinball aspect doesn't always work and the physics feel a little too floaty, which makes some sections very finnicky. Still recommended for fans of either genre.

In a world filled with Vampire Survivors clones, Ball x Pit stands out, combining it with Breakout and Tetris-style base-building. Everything works together far better than I first imagined it would. My only (minor!) complaint is that NG+ doesn't offer any real incentive to play it.

I have a love/hate relationship with Laika.

On the one hand, there are things that I find so incredibly frustrating about it. Such as:
  • The controls are incredibly finnicky
  • The physics are incredibly finnicky
  • Sometimes the reload mechanic simply fails to work
  • A kind of annoying cooking mechanic that would have worked better as gear or incremental, permanent upgrades
  • A map that is a giant, confusing slog to traverse with far too few fast-travel points
  • Side-quest are fairly unrewarding, often giving you a comically meager rewards

However, despite all these annoyances, it has a bunch of things going for it:
  • Absolutely gorgeous artwork and animation
  • A beautiful soundtrack
  • A gritty, brutally well-written story
  • Combat that, when everything is working, flows together to create some really cool fights
  • Some genuinely wonderful cinematic moments

Ultimately, I do recommend Laika, but just be forewarned that there are some sections that will make you want to throw your controller.

Recommended with a few caveats.

Pros
  • Nice art
  • Compelling story
  • Game is generous with save points and healing items
  • Multiple endings

Cons
  • Some of the "Witching Hour" sections can be pretty obtuse and frustrating
  • English translation can be a little rough
  • Dialog choices often give no indication what will actually be said

Overall an enjoyable folk-horror game that clocks-in at just the right length.

I fell in love with the Ender series after playing Ender Lilies. The art, music, gameplay, and combat are all fantastic across both games, and Ender Magnolia incrementally improves on Ender Lilies in nearly every way, adding some more interesting abilities and equipment as well as some welcomed QoL features. Highly recommended.

If you enjoy playing games where the entire game is fighting against wacky, unpredictable physics you may enjoy this. For everyone else: stay away.

Short little horror game that packs in some really well-timed jump-scares.

Absolutely blown away at the beauty of The Midnight Walk. It truly feels like being inside a clay world. Character design, sound design, music, writing, and voice acting are all exceptional. A real work of art in every respect.

Really fun concept, entertaining exploration and solid writing/humor. The combination of word puzzles and riddles was really enjoyable.

Only minor complaint was that some of the balancing could have been adjusted a bit. You'll only end up unlocking around half of the skills during a regular playthrough unless you either grind a lot of battles, or are a really, really good guesser. Combat was never difficult enough to become a chore, although many skills went unused due to just not remembering them.

At around 18hrs to beat, it felt like exactly the right length.
